Korean singer-songwriter IU recently dropped a new bright, cheerful single Celebrity, and its music video has not only been viewed more than 36 million times (and counting) on YouTube, but has also inspired fans worldwide to emulate the gorgeous beauty looks featured in it.
In the music video, IU plays two roles — a celebrity decked out in opulent jewellery and and a regular girl doing everyday things. The music video culminates in the mirror scene where IU realises that she has always been both her own star and her own fan.
Here’s a deeper look at some of the double tap-worthy looks and how to achieve them.
Glossy lips have been making a shiny new comeback. Here, IU is seen sporting a glass finish; lip gloss with an almost mirror-like look to it. This extra-shiny look imparts a healthy and vibrant appearance.
Cop IU’s glossy lips: Start by applying a small amount of gloss on the centre of your lips and carefully blend this outwards with your fingertip. Follow IU’s lead and team your high-shine lips with a creamy finish on the cheeks and matte brown eyes.
IU loves a good no-makeup makeup look, but when she goes glam like in her Celebrity music video, she uses glitter — lots of it! Glitter on the lids has the ability to instantly illuminate the face and breathe life into any look.
Cop IU’s dazzling eye makeup: Dab a little bit of glitter eyeshadow on the centre of your lids over a neutral shadow. Pair your shimmery shadow with a peachy glossy lip and fresh base.
The moment we saw IU’s Celebrity music video, we knew 2021 was (still) going to be the year of the curly see-through bangs. Whether blunt or wispy, bangs are a great way to make a statement without sacrificing the length of your strands. IU opted for wispy eyebrow-grazing bangs to accentuate her pretty peepers.
Cop IU’s curled bangs: Grab a flat iron and run it through your bangs, curling it inwards when you get to the ends for a bouncy finish.
One of the most recreated looks from the Celebrity music video is this bejewelled eye makeup look. The rhinestones on the inner corners of her eyes can easily replace an inner-eye highlight to create a larger, doe-eyed look.
Cop IU’s bejewelled eye makeup: Preparation is key when it comes to rhinestone application. You will need a clean and flat surface to arrange your rhinestones before picking them up with tweezers. Your eye area should be dry for the glue (pro tip: you can use lash glue for this) to adhere properly. If you feel that your eye area is too slick for the rhinestones to stick on, dust some translucent setting powder on top.
This French-inspired bare-faced, bright cherry lips ensemble seen on IU will complement a wide variety of skin tones. Apart from bright red luscious lips, the key to nailing this look is to conceal any imperfections on skin.
Cop IU’s cherry bomb makeup: After applying a thin layer of foundation, conceal and cover up pimples, redness and dark circles around the eyes.
For two trends in one, pull inspo from IU and sport a messy bun with an accent braid. This hairstyle is great for keeping long hair off your face and under control in searing weather.
Cop IU’s messy bun with accent braid: If you’re working with pin-straight hair, you want to add some texture by creating waves with a curling iron before throwing it up into a bun. Additionally, it’s also a good idea to finish with a texturising spray to add fullness and grip that will help add volume to your bun and keep it in place. Once you’re done with your messy bun, pick out a section (about 1 inch) of hair with a rattail comb. With that section, create a tiny accent braid in a simple, three-strand style.
IU looks so good with this vibrant red hair colour that she should consider making it permanent. This bold, less-conventional shade is an absolute head-turner, and we haven’t stopped thinking about it.
Cop IU’s bold red hair colour: If you want to get the look without any major commitment, try using a temporary hair dye instead. Instead of altering the hair strand, these dyes deposit a layer of colour on the outside of it. Hence, depending on the formula, they wash out after four to ten shampoos.
Trust us when we say lipsticks look best long after they’ve been applied. Just look at this subtle, cool “blurred lip” seen on IU. It looks like a stain that’s left behind after you’ve worn the shade for a few hours.
Cop IU’s blurred lip: To get that hazy, dreamy lived-in effect (minus all-day wear, of course), simply tap on a sheer wash of powdery lipstick.
