Now that wearing masks is the new norm, some of us are putting in extra effort with your eye makeup, then it might be time to get a little more experimental and try out different looks while you are at it. From fuss-free daily looks to brighter, bolder shades, we suss out the best – and wearable – makeup trends from the Fall/Winter 2020 runways.
Pink is probably the most wearable colour after nude and basically complements every skin tone. While many of us are used to applying the usual pastel and rose tones, it might be time to experiment with darker, sultrier shades of pink to recreate a classic smokey look. Darker shades of plum and maroon are great substitutes to brown and black shades when adding more depth to the lids, as seen on the models at Chanel.
This comes with four shades from rich matte raspberry to a satiny rosy platinum to recreate a variation of different pink eye makeup looks from a softer, more wearable look to an exaggerated, intense smokey eye. One shade to love: the satiny platinum highlight that gives a pearlescent sheen to the peepers.
Lining your eyes can make a whole world of difference and do wonders in framing the eyes. At Dior, Peter Philips, creative and image director for Dior Make-up, chose to focus on the eyes. He either line the eye completely, or only the corners of the eyes. You can tone it down by drawing a thinner line.
Pen eyeliners are easier to control as they come with a sharp tip for precision. It’s also long-wearing, so you can wear your dramatic eye makeup all day long. This eyeliner also comes in Matte Black, if you prefer a matte finish.
Consider this a cheat sheet to your usual brown eye makeup look. The girls at MSGM opted for a more subtle, less dramatic look that offered a dreamier appeal. Plus, it can be easily replicated even by a makeup beginner. The best part? You only need to use a single shade on your lids to recreate this look.
Besides helping to recreate the softer brown eye makeup look, this even comes with a shade of pink, which you can simply add on for a subtle pop of colour. The pearlescent shade can also be applied on the inner corner of your eyes or on the brow bone to give your peepers more definition.
For the experimental crowd, dress your lids in a bold blue shade like the models at Tadashi Shoji and keep the rest of your face as simple and clean as possible. Be sure to only apply it within the double eyelid area, or from the lid to slightly above the crease for those with single eyelids as spreading it too high up may be too dramatic. If this is too overwhelming for daily wear, go for an ocean or sky blue shade, which you can easily blend with beige colours.
From deep navy hues in a matte finish to a metallic champagne-gold, this eyeshadow palette consists of four complementing shades to recreate the bold, blue eye makeup look. Blend out the striking shades with champagne and shimmering beige and brown to soften any harsh lines.
Applying a glob of grass-green above your peepers might not be the most wearable shade for every day. The key here is to introduce other complementing colours or use it as an accent to highlight your eye makeup look. For a more exaggerated, smokey eye effect as seen as Alice + Olivia, smudge it out with a darker eyeshadow – we’d go with brown or black – and opt for shimmer or metallic shades for an edgier appeal.
We are all for compact, mini eyeshadow palettes that are great for on-the-go. This mini six-pan palette is packed with rich, smooth, and blendable shades of green and yellow in matte, shimmer and glitter finishes to create a multitude of eyeshadow looks. To neutralise the green, add in shades of brown.
