With Chinese New Year being just under three weeks away, you probably fall into one of two camps: the woman who’s got all her outfits planned or the one who’s still got plenty of time. (“Really, there’s no need to worry.”)
Either way, we’re dishing the deets and tips today on how you can seamlessly add your lucky colour into your look.
With help from Way Fengshui Group’s Chef Geomancer, Grand Master Tan Khoon Yong, we’ve found your zodiac sign’s lucky colours and did some digging to keep you inspired!

We know. Grey sounds like such a dull colour but when done right, grey eyeshadow can add a touch of sultriness to your look.
For those of you who would like to keep your eye makeup minimal, line your eyes with a creamy pencil and then, using a smudge brush, gently blend it upwards, working from the inner to the outer corner of your eye.
As for the monolidded readers, or those of you who’d prefer a more elaborate look, apply a light dusting of beige eyeshadow all over your lids to add some warmth, before dipping your brush into the grey shadow and sweeping it over your lid, including your crease. Then, to create a nice gradient effect, build up the colour with another dip into the eyeshadow pot, this time concentrating below your crease. Finally, line your eyes with a soft grey pencil and smudge your liner upwards.

If you’ve got an outfit that’s leaning towards the darker side, then adding a splash of vibrant orange to your eyelids will be the perfect way to perk your look back up.
Making sure to tap off any excess eyeshadow, sweep the orange shade across your crease to warm up your look. As always, be sure to start with a light hand and build up the pigmentation gradually. Finally, to complete the look, use your fourth finger to gently pat a pink-toned cream eyeshadow onto your lid.

For all our tigresses out there, it’s time to pull out those claws and head to your favourite manicurist (or one of ours, if you’re on a budget) because we’re going green…with your nails.
Opt for a rich sea-green so that your nails won’t be taking any attention away from your #OOTD shot. And for those of you who love a little bling, go over your green base with a top coat of green and silver glitter. Or if you’re unafraid of mess, then go ahead and pour a pack of glitter over your nails before the base coat dries. Just don’t blame us if you find glitter everywhere for the next few days!

The sunny colour is no longer reserved for just the runway or glossy magazines. In 2017, we saw the beginnings to the yellow eye look trend that we believe is well worth bringing into the new year.
The trick is to use subtle, transitional shades that will warm up your crease and outer V before dusting on the yellow pigment all over your lid before blending the edges into the crease. Then all that’s left to do is build up the yellow to your desired intensity.

While our fashion writers were busy monitoring the notable trends at Paris Fashion Week, we were blown away by the mesmorising makeup at Anna Sui’s Fall ‘17 runway show, courtesy of the revered makeup Pat McGrath. So we figure, what better way to up your Instagram game – and amaze your relatives, of course – than with a gorgeous nod to the runway look?
Better yet, now that we can officially get the cult-favourite brand in Singapore (thank you Net-A-Porter!), it’s going to be easier than ever to recreate the stunning galaxy-inspired runway look.
And frankly, there’s very little to it. Pat McGrath recommends using your fingers to apply the UltraViolet Blue pigment across your lids, before using a blender brush to mould it into your desired shape. You can of course choose to line your eyes but the product is so intensely pigmented (with astral flecks of violet glitter) that you’re fine leaving it as is.

If you thought you could sit out on the red for Chinese New Year, we’re happy to say that your hipster heart thought very wrong, indeed.
One way to add your lucky colour for the year of the dog is to give yourself a healthy flush that’ll keep you looking fresh and youthful.
And with everything, be sure to apply your blush with a light hand to avoid looking like a china doll. Remember, it’s always easier to build pigmentation than to remove it!
Pro-tip: If you have rounder cheeks, avoid applying it on the apples of your cheeks. Use it a little lower for a contoured effect.
Recommended product: MAC Matte Blush in Frankly Scarlet, $22, available at all MAC counters and stores
Other lucky colour: Orange

It seems almost fitting that the lucky colour for you horses is a grounded, earthy brown. So to keep in line with that image, 2018 might be the year for a natural beauty look.
What are we proposing? Thickening your upper lash line with a reliable brown gel liner.
Forget the dramatic cat eye flick or the tightlining. Instead, using an angled liner brush, apply the product as close to your lash line as possible. By creating a thin line, you’ll create the appearance of bigger eyes and fuller lashes.
And if you’d like to add some dimension to your eyes, use a fluffy blender brush and a light brown eyeshadow to warm up your crease, before running some highlighter

We understand your hesitance. After all, yellow isn’t the most universal of colours – and it unfortunately isn’t the most wearable either. Lucky for you, we here at Her World know just how you can work that into your look without looking too, well, clownish.
Our solution’s simple: A graphic liner look. (Don’t freak out just yet; it sounds a lot more artsy than it really is.)
So what goes into creating this graphic liner? All you’ll need is a yellow liquid liner and your trusty black liquid liner. Start by drawing a winged look as usual – only this time with your yellow eyeliner. Then, when that’s dried and settled, carefully outline the wing.
General tip: Be sure to thicken your lash line when lining the bottom of your winged liner. Trust us, it makes a huge difference.

Alright monkeys, listen up. If anyone’s going to be the life of the party, it’s you. And that’s why we’re suggesting something a little unorthodox because, hey, you could totally pull it off.
Just like how you brighten up any room you enter (wink!), add some vibrant blue to your eyelashes with blue mascara.
Yes, we know. Black has always been the mainstay colour for mascara – and for good reason – but hear us out.
Apply a coat of your favourite mascara to thicken and lengthen your lashes as usual, but as an extra step, apply some blue mascara to just the tips. It’s a little whimsical but if anything, it’s just another conversation starter; something you clearly already are!

It may no longer be your year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stand out all the same!
And what better way to remind everyone of how you’re very much in charge than with vivid red lips? Just like Rihanna continues to dazzle us all, your deep red lips will elevate your entire look, making you picture-ready all the time.
However, with perfect lips comes great responsibility, and that will mean you’ll likely need to reapply after wolfing down all that bak kwa. (We’re not judging.) So be sure to bring your lipstick along!

Since it’s your year, it seems only fitting that your look is coordinated perfectly. And what matches perfectly with your ang kam? Coral lips.
If bright lips aren’t quite your thing, then simply go for the K-Beauty gradient lip effect, adding the splash of colour to the centre of your lips. That keeps your touch ups minimal and super easy, meaning more time to help yourself to another serving of pineapple tarts, thank you very much!

We all know that Chinese New Year means an abundance of great food and filling snacks, which means bloating is pretty much inevitable. Yep, not a great look.
So in true BFF-style, we’ve got our planning gear on and we’re looking ahead and trust, us, we’ve come up with a great solution. The perfect way to include your lucky colour in is also the perfect way to keep the bloating at bay…or to look like it, anyway.
Carve out your cheeks by contouring with a cool-toned brown that’ll keep your face looking immaculately chiseled all day. That’ll allow you to say yes to supper without looking like you’ve spent the entire day helping yourself to all the steamboat your tummy desired. We may not be able to do anything about the tightening waistband (it’ll go down eventually), but we can certainly help with your face!
