With the circuit breaker coming to an end soon (here’s what you can and cannot do after June 1), we are still advised to social distance ourselves from each other. And since all relationships require effort, and you’d want to continue your romantic dates. Just as you’ve come to look great while conducting your professional life virtually, we’re here to ensure that you look your best for your next romantic (virtual) date.
Take inspiration from The King: Eternal Monarch’s Kim Go-eun, Rihanna and more as we break down their easy, yet stunning makeup looks so that you can easily recreate them for your next virtual date.
Kim Go Eun’s makeup look here is simple, yet it emphasises her features by giving her fuller-looking cheeks. To recreate, start by using a cool or neutral-toned bronzer to shade and contour the forehead. For the cheeks, opt for a cream or liquid blush and sweep a light layer from the middle of the apples of the cheeks to the cheekbones. You can also apply a little dab of highlighter across the blushed cheeks if you’re using a matte blush. Complete the look with a stained lip and ombre brows.

Tzuyu’s look focuses more on having a dewy complexion accompanied by a soft smoky eye. Start by perfecting your complexion with a BB or CC cushion that has a dewy finish. If your foundation veers on the matte side, you can mix a few drops of liquid highlighter before application. The eyes are defined with a medium brown eyeshadow that’s at least two shades darker than your complexion before tightlining with a dark brown eyeliner pencil and lashings of mascara. Pick a light pink gloss to achieve the look.
A fail-safe look you can easily recreate is Rihanna’s monochromatic look. Don’t have a blush and eyeshadow that is of similar tones? Don’t fret as you can use your blush as eyeshadow or vice versa. Blush tends to be less pigmented so you will need to build up colour, and if you’re using eyeshadow as blusher, it needs to be used with the lightest hand to prevent your cheeks from appearing clown-like. Another way to recreate the monochrome look is to use a bronzer instead to achieve a healthy, tanned look. Finally, finish with a matching lippie.
Dilraba’s look is perfect when you’re feeling lazy, but still want to look and feel glamorous. Her fresh face is complemented with a subtle dusting of light brown eyeshadow for a little definition, copious coats of mascara to open the eyes and a slight and a hint of nose contour. Lastly, the pièce de résistance of her red carpet look is a bold, blue-based red lipstick that brightens her complexion and adds pizzazz to the pared back base makeup.
What do you do when your work meeting has overrun and now you only have 20 minutes to transform yourself for your romantic virtual date? Keep it simple. You probably already have your makeup done so it’s about refreshing it to get Billie Eilish’s fresh, no-makeup makeup look. Start by tackling any shine that may have built up while answering all your boss’s gruelling questions with a light dusting of loose powder. Keep the powder to the T-zone and the centre of your face so the rest of it looks glowy. Then, add a few coats of mascara, a couple of passes with blush and bronzer and define the lips with lip liner and creamy nude lipstick. Finish with a few spritzes of setting spray.
