The climate we live in has an unfortunately significant impact on our skin and even our hair. The fact that some of our biggest skin concerns in Singapore are oily skin and large pores is telling of what living in a hot and humid environment can do to your skin.
While some people might be lucky enough to have normal skin with barely visible pores, or even skin that’s on the drier side, many of us are oily and constantly looking for ways to keep our faces shine-free, make our pores look invisible, and keep our makeup from melting off throughout the day.
Makeup primers play a very large role in achieving all this, especially on typically hot days. I myself have particularly noticeable pores on my nose and cheeks, and a face that gets oily within the hour.
There are a lot of foundations out there that control oil, but won’t do much for your pores. Some might even accentuate any pores you already have, or sit in the pores and not blend out as nicely. The solution? Pore-fillers.
Pore-fillers are typically silicone-based makeup primers that work to fill in your pores so that the surface of your skin becomes smooth. This in turn will allow any makeup to apply smoothly and cover up the appearance of your pores without any skin texture visible through the foundation.
Pro tip: Always use as little as possible when filling in your pores, because too much silicone primer can sometimes ball up under your makeup, making it difficult to apply anything on top of it.
Some of these are downright magical in what they do to our faces, but just keep in mind that silicone-based primers are not actually that great for our skin in the long-run and can even break you out, so it’s best to save them for special occasions, times you need that extra boost, and make sure to cleanse your skin thoroughly at the end of the day or night.
