It’s hard to look flawless with makeup when you have oily skin or large pores, especially in Singapore’s hot and humid weather. To help, here are seven primers that will get you looking poreless and shine-free.

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Instant Perfecting Primer

A newer primer than the rest, this one is also a lightweight primer with silica beads that does an amazing job at blurring the appearance of pores. It’s oil-free and non-comedogenic, making it great for Singapore weather and even oily skin types.

Benefit Cosmetics The Porefessional Face Primer, $54
image

One of the best-selling silicone-y primers out there, The Porefessional isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, Benefit Cosmetics recently expanded the range! If you experience any “balling” up of the primer, it might be because of the moisturiser you have on underneath.

Make Up For Ever Smoothing Primer, $70

I was using their primers when they were packaged in the frosted glass bottles, and I might love them even more now. With something for every skin concern, what’s not to love? The smoothing primer in particular does an amazing job at making your pores look flawless.

Tarte Clean Slate Poreless 12-Hour Perfecting Primer, $48

If waterproof is what you’re after, then this primer by Tarte will get the job done. It works well to blur imperfections, but also uses natural ingredients that contain vitamins A, C and E. It’s great for oily skin, and anyone concerned about animal cruelty!

Make Up Store Smoothing Primer, $69

It was quite shocking, the first time I tried this primer out at a store. It almost defies the laws of makeup, being a powder primer that can be used under liquid foundations. We’ve always been told, powder over liquid, and never the other way around. Amazingly, this primer works perfectly well under liquid foundations and has an incredibly smooth texture to it. I love that you can use it under or on top of your makeup too.

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, $84
image

The first time I heard about this primer on Youtube, a makeup artist was talking about how she used it on all her bridal clients with oily skin and they stayed flawless all day. It’s amazingly lightweight, water-resistant, and mineral-based. If you don’t want to splurge on the full-sized bottle, try the travel-size one first.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original, $33
image

We can’t forget the eyes when it comes to priming our face. In fact, while I don’t use makeup primers on a daily basis, I use an eye base every day. This one from Urban Decay is pretty much a classic at this point in time, and has a bit of tint to it that covers up some redness or veins on your eyelids. It dries fast, so work it one eye at a time, and set it with some powder to make your eyeshadow go on more smoothly.
