When you think of Easter, the first thing that comes to mind would most probably revolve around childhood memories – Easter egg hunts, polka dotted frocks and chocolate eggs.

Now that you’re all grown up, you can approach Easter from a new perspective – makeup. It’s time to embrace those pastel hues and delicious edible tones. Whether you haver Easter plans or not, here are some makeup ideas, seen on celebs like Shu Qi and Ann Hsu that will get you ready for the colourful holiday.

While pastels are all about soft, shimmery colours, you can always take it to new heights. This Easter, try playing around with the oh-so-trendy millennial pink. Just make sure not to overdo it, we still want to keep it on the subtle side.

The best way to achieve this look seen on one-quarter of local indie band The Sam Willows, Narelle Kheng, is to use an eyeshadow that is in a crayon form such as the NYX Professional Makeup Jumbo Eye Pencil in Strawberry Milk ($12), so you can get more pigment on your lids. Kick it up a notch and apply some highlighter on the corner of your eyes and brow bone to brighten your eyes.

Seohyun

Regardless of which makeup look you decide to wear with your Sunday best, be sure to pair it with an equally flawless complexion to match. To get K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun’s luminous and almost translucent skin, start with a primer that will create a smooth canvas for your base and help your makeup last longer. If your skin has the appearance of redness, dullness, dark circles or sallowness, use a colour correcting product to neutralise and camouflage your skin concerns.

Instead of using heavy colour correcting concealers that could cause your makeup to look cakey, go with a lightweight colour correcting treatment such as the Dr.Jart+ Cicapair Re-cover ($77) instead. This all-in-one treatment doesn’t just cover blemishes and neutralise redness on the skin, it also helps to soothe inflamed and ruddy skin with tiger grass, an active ingredient used to restore and support damaged skin. Follow up with a radiant finish foundation and blend it evenly all over your face with a damp makeup sponge for that dewy finish. For the finishing touch, brighten your under-eyes with a concealer and blend it into place.

If you have no time to perfect that expertly blended smoky eye, try an allover wash of colour instead like “While You Were Sleeping” actress Lee Sung Kyung. To ensure your eyeshadow shade doesn’t slip and slide through your Easter festivities, start your makeup routine by applying primer on each lid. Next, pop that allover colour across your lids for an Easter-ready look.

For this look, we recommend going with a cream eyeshadow such as the Shiseido Makeup Paperlight Cream in Sango Orange ($35) that is easier to apply than a powder, and create a more uniform and pigmented finish. Also, these formulas tend to be water-resistant and can be applied with your fingers. Since the lid look is super-simple, you want to add interest to your eyes with a crisp wing tip and a coat or two of volumising mascara.

Haejung

Complete your Easter makeup look with gradient lips that give that “just bitten effect” seen on actress Haejung. Start off by applying lip tint in the inner parts of your lips. Dab the product on the inner parts of your lips and blend it out with your fingers. With a sheer nude or clear lip gloss of your choice, apply it all over your lips, avoiding the tinted parts.

If your eyes are the windows to your soul, well applied eyeliner act like a window frame – enhancing, defining and giving your eyes more structure. Don’t just take it from us, look at the difference well-applied eyeliner made to “Tanglin” actress Kayly Loh’s look. If you want your eyes to be the focal point of your Easter makeup, line your eyes with a pencil liner before going back in with a liquid liner so your eyeliner stays on, smudge-free and well-lined.

Rosy cheeks are a sweet and girly look to wear throughout Easter weekend. Feeling daring? Go with bold cheeks this holiday with a bright pink blush and pair your cheeks with a gorgeous coral lip, and you’ve got yourself a stunning combo. If you’re looking for a subtle and understated all over glow, use a large soft brush and apply a touch of blush to the hollows of your cheeks and take what is left and bring that down to the jawline.

But, if you’re looking for something more dramatic, apply the blusher in circular motions on the apples of your cheeks and blend it outwards towards the ear like Taiwanese actress Ann Hsu.

Hong Ling

There is no easier way to elevate your Easter makeup look to new heights than with fiery red lips. And when in doubt, always go with a classic crimson shade seen on local actress Hong Ling that will work with all complexions. If you are just dipping your toes into the realm of red lippies, go with a red tinted lip balm or a tint for that flush of red on your lips.

Shu Qi

If you’ve found the perfect Easter brunch dress, this glossy eye makeup look seen on Chinese actress Shu Qi might just be the finishing touch to your holiday get-up. Rather than opting for the traditional shimmer shadow this Easter, amp up your look by pairing your makeup with latex-look lid. The glossy lids look is extremely versatile and can be worn with a matte lip or a bold bright lip colour.

For a more dramatic night time look, team your glossy lids with highlighted skin and a defined lip. While glossy lids might come off as a little intimidating, because it’s different from the matte and shimmery eyeshadows that we are used to, recreating the look is actually incredibly easy. All it takes is tapping some lip gloss or balm on top of your eyeshadow. To prevent your eye makeup from smudging, tightline your eyes with smudge-proof eyeliner that wouldn’t budge even when it comes into contact with the gloss.

Bora

Since Easter drops on the spring season, it’s the perfect timing to include a pop of colour to your look.  The spotlight is on the pout for this makeup look inspired by former Sistar member Bora.

Apply your foundation, concealer and powder as you usually would. On the eyes, pick a light colour for the lids and add depth to the eyes with an eyeliner before following up with a coat of mascara on your upper and lower lips. Finish off your look with a fuchsia or neon pink lippy.

Park Shin Hye

Who knew that doing a natural glam look can be done? This Easter, go glam and natural at the same time. Easter isn’t particularly the best time to go full-on glam, especially if you have a dinner with your family. With this look inspired by Korean actress Park Shin Hye, you can get the best of both worlds.

If you’re going for a bright bold lip, keep the rest of your makeup simple. For your eyes, go with a neutral eyeshadow of your choice and top it off with a coat of mascara. On your face, just keep it simple with light contour and a touch of highlight for some glow.
