As we age, fine lines and saggy skin are unavoidable. In fact, actress Joanne Peh believes “you can’t fight ageing, but you can slow it down,” which is why she turned to Ultherapy, a non-invasive skin lifting treatment that helps to boost collagen production.
Joanne Peh was speaking at a panel discussion last Thursday (Oct 10) which was organised by Merz Aesthetics for readers of Her World, Singapore Women’s Weekly and Nuyou to find out more about Ultherapy.
The by-invite-only event, held at the Luxe Art Museum, was transformed into a cosy living space with sofas for readers to meet the stars Joanne Peh, Jamie Yeo and Dasmond Koh who was the host and moderator of the panel discussion.
Also in attendance was Dr Shiau Ee Leng who was there to answer all the burning questions that readers had with regards to skincare concerns as well as how aesthetic treatments like Ultherapy can help to slow down the process of ageing.
Host Jamie Yeo, who is in her early 40s, looks seemingly great for her age. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have ageing concerns.
She revealed that since she is naturally boney and has thin skin, she noticed a loss of collagen when she turned 40.
So in June, the 42-year-old host-emcee turned to Ultherapy after hearing rave reviews about it. Ultherapy is the world’s only US Food and Drug Administration-cleared ultrasound treatment that lifts and tightens skin, and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Ageing naturally was important for Jamie as with Joanne. Ultherapy, which ranges from $3,000 for one session, penetrates deep into the skin to rebuild collagen from within. The effects after the treatment was natural, which is what Jamie liked about the treatment that can last for around 12-18 months, depending on the individual.
In addition, Jamie also revealed that she liked that there was no downtime involved for this procedure, created by German aesthetic company Merz Aesthetics. She joked that she would hate to go for a treatment with everybody knowing that she did something (to her face) if there was downtime.
Also, the treatment was not that painful for Jamie. She described it as gentle pulses on the skin in one area before a certified doctor would move onto the next part of your face.
It only got more sensitive and hotter near the jawline where she is rather boney but it was nothing too unbearable.
Joanne, who tried the treatment in November last year, said she was convinced about Ultherapy because, like any well-discerning consumer, she did first her research on the different types of aesthetic treatments in the market and found that there are a lot of studies done on Ultherapy to support its claims.
At first, she didn’t notice the after-effects of Ultherapy until she was filming Last Madame, her latest series where she plays a brothel boss.
Joanne explained that it was very taxing on her physically as she had to spend 16-18 hours a day on set and had to smoke.
But during that time, she realised that the concealer could actually conceal her under-eye issues, which has never happened before, so the actress attributed the difference to the treatment.
“When I look at myself in the mirror every day I can’t tell the difference but it becomes really obvious when you look at your photographs now and six months ago,” said Joanne, who is also the ambassador for Ultherapy.
The mother of two children, who are two and four years old, liked the treatment so much that she managed to convince her husband and fellow actor Qi Yuwu to try Ultherapy as well so that he would look “less tired” from all the late nights taking care of their younger child and having to work in the day.
