It’s easy to neglect the rest of your body when we’re strapped for time, and even more so when we live in a humid climate that doesn’t leave our skin feeling all that parched. But the reality is that our bodies will need consistent hydration over time.
As we go about our days and our skin’s natural protective barrier weakens from aggressors like pollution and sun damage, our skin has a tougher time staying hydrated and will begin to feel dry or even sensitive, which is when we not only need to rehydrate it, but restore those protective barriers.
To help you out we’ve put together a number of recent body lotions, serums and creams that are all going to get your skin back to an optimum level of hydration.
With an option for every budget and skin type, here are eight body lotions your skin is going to want to drink right up.
Packed with antioxidants and strengthening amino acids, this body lotion promises long-lasting hydration while protecting against free-radical damage.
This body lotion has organic and fair trade shea butter and bourbon vanilla extract to moisturise skin. It is absorbed into skin easily and is also free of parabens and mineral oil.
Available at Yves Rocher outlets and Lazada

As fans of By Terry’s incredibly pricey Baume de Rose lip balm, we knew we were in for some luxurious skincare when they announced the range extension earlier this year. With a hand cream, face cream and body cream added to the mix, you can now quite literally slather your entire body in the stuff. The body cream may seem thick and too heavy for our weather at first glance (and touch), but it melts into dry or cracked skin like a dream and provides some much-needed relief for the nights we spend sleeping in air-conditioned rooms.
The range smells like freshly picked roses and contains antioxidant rose butter to improve skin elasticity, rosehip oil that’s full of fatty acids to boost cell regeneration, and other ingredients to nourish, tone, protect and soften your skin.
If anything, this luxurious anti-ageing bodycare range makes us feel like we should be sleeping on silk sheets.

We know we should be slapping on sunscreen on our bodies as well as our faces when spending a day outdoors, but most of us neglect to do so because it can get uncomfortable when we perspire with sunscreen on our bodies.
Biore’s latest anti-pollution body care serums are the perfect answer to your conundrum. Not only do they have high levels of UVA and UVB protection, they also fend off free radicals from pollutants. And as the name suggests, it isn’t a heavy lotion that’s going to sit on your skin. Instead it has a fast-absorbing ultra-light serum texture which spreads easily and feels comfortable on your skin even under the hot sun.
You can try the Intensive White version which has Vitamin B3 and Yuzu Orange, or the Extra Moist one for drier skin that has Vitamin E and Collagen.

As far as budget options go, it’s tough to beat this new body lotion from Jergens. It contains both coconut oil and coconut water and is incredibly lightweight which is perfect for daytime. The coconut scent is not overwhelming and is actually really comforting and relaxing to the senses. If you don’t have extremely dry skin but just want some hydration to get your body through a day at work, this is the perfect thing to slather on after your morning shower.

If sensitive or irritable skin is your biggest concern, then you might want to go with a brand like Aveeno. It’s dermatologically tested and contains colloidal oatmeal to soothe and nourish your skin. It contains active natural ingredients and is fragrance free so as not to irritate skin further.
There are several ranges within the Aveeno brand depending on the severity of your skin issues or your needs. If you have dry and slightly sensitive skin, then the Daily Moisturizing Lotion is more than sufficient. But if your skin is itchy, dry and extra sensitive, then you’ll need to supplement it with the body wash from the Skin Relief range. There’s even a range for babies if you have a young one at home.

Clarins has been building on its White Plus range for a while now, and we’re glad they’ve come out with a body product that also targets dark spots and pigmentation.
The body veil contains the same acerola plant extract found in the brand’s powerful White Plus brightening serum that works to prevent, correct and control the formation and appearance of dark spots.
So if you’re someone who’s acquired a fair bit of pigmentation over the years or who spends a lot of their day outdoors, give this a shot. It’s also got a low level of UV protection and hydrating properties to keep your skin feeling comfortable.

Another great brand for sensitive skin is dermatologist-recommended La Roche-Posay. This body milk from the brand’s Lipikar line (with 25 years of research) in particular is meant to restore the hydrolipidic layer of your skin to help your skin stay hydrated for longer.
Essentially, a weakening of our skin’s protective barrier is what leads to higher sensitivity and dryness, and this lotion is going to reinforce that barrier while also deeply hydrating your skin. The milky texture is also a lot lighter and more easily absorbed which is ideal with our weather. It contains niacinamide and shea butter to plump, smooth and nourish.

If you’ve got dry, sensitive or easily irritated skin, Dermaveen is another brand to consider. Like Aveeno, it contains active natural ingredients and has products that use collodial oatmeal to soothe and nourish skin and restore its natural protective barrier. The main difference between the two brands is that Dermaveen also has a range for hair and scalp care. The oatmeal shampoo and conditioner are must-tries if you’ve got a sensitive and flaky scalp.
Not sure which product range or brand to go with for your skin type, Dermaveen offers a free trial pack on its website so you can try it out for yourself.

Nivea has expanded on its cult favourite Creme that is loved around the world with this new Nivea Care cream. It’s based on a new and patent pending formula that uses something called wax hydrodispersion. In other words, the light hydrowaxes in the cream melt upon contact with your skin to not only moisturise your skin but help keep the moisture locked in.
The cream is surprisingly non-greasy and absorbs easily, though we definitely prefer to use this one at night or if spending the whole day in air-conditioning because it’s got a slight richness to its texture.
According to Nivea, this cream is an all-in-one no-frills face, hand, and body cream to give your skin the simplest type of care it needs: nourishment. And who can resist a tiny travel-sized tub for less than three dollars?
