13 beauty products to perk up your mornings
Good morning sunshine!
image

It’s morning. You hit the alarm with a smile on your face, the sun peeps through the blinds and birds are chirping melodiously out the windows… not. Let’s admit it, mornings aren’t always the best thing but alas, our office desks await us. Being woken up by an alarm too loud, followed by the early (overcrowded) commute and a rumbling tummy… Trust us, we get you. We hate it too. If we had things our way, we’d be up no earlier than ten.

So to make opening your peepers and getting out of bed a little easier every morning, we’ve rounded up a list of beauty products that’ll help you feel refreshed and work wonders for your skin at the same time. It’s a win-win situation so why not?

Bonus tip: if you want to feel even perkier, pop these products into the fridge and take them out when you want to use them!

Laneige Fresh Calming Gel Cleanser, $30
image

The Fresh Calming line from Laneige, though specifically for oily skin, helps to moisturise and soothe your skin in the gentlest way.

The gel cleanser from the line cleanses your skin and doesn’t leave it feeling irritated or stripped of its moisture. Thanks to the deep seawater, it leaves your skin feeling plump and hydrated. Plus its natural litchi extract means you’ll feel a whole lot more refreshed!

Lush Whoosh Shower Jelly, $19
image

Besides leaving you feeling refreshed, this shower jelly from Lush promises a bubbling good time in the morning. You could even leave it in the fridge and whip it out before you shower for an extra zing.

Inside this little jelly is a bundle of citrusy and zesty goodness from grapefruit, lime and lemon juice. It’s safe to say that the smallest bit of sleepiness will be blasted away after stepping into the shower. Meanwhile, the Whoosh jelly’s honey water component will help to cleanse, moisturise and protect your skin from damage.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream, $42
image

Whether you had a late night or just got off a flight, this eye cream will zap your eyes (and soul) back to life. Formulated with coffee beans, panax ginseng, magnolia extract and natural optic brighteners, you can expect that this cream will not just brighten and de-puff your eyes – the caffeine and herbal mix will wake you up. Trust us.

This eye cream from Origins restores radiance to your tired eyes and makes them brighter. That means that if your under eyes aren’t too dark, you could use the cream alone. Nonetheless, it works great beneath concealers – just remember to use an adequate amount but not too much, which could cause caking or your concealer to shift.

Available here.

Bath Body Works Energy Body Wash, $25
image

The aromatherapy line from Bath & Body Works is hands down one of my personal favourites. It’s divided into seven moods from focus, to stress relief and happiness. Each of them encompasses essential oils and scents that relate to the mood – the Energy collection’s top notes are orange and ginger.

While the orange helps to rejuvenate and uplift your senses, the ginger energises them. The scent doesn’t last too long but helps to wake you up. For the full effect, get the body scrub and body butter along with it. What I love about their body wash is that a little goes a long way, so really spending that much on soap is kinda worth it.

Available at Bath & Body Works outlets.

Lush Ocean Salt Face And Body Scrub, $58
image

It’s packed with fine sea salt and fresh grapefruit infusion that’s great for exfoliating and buffing your skin ‘till it’s feeling fresh, clean and glowing with radiance. Paired with avocado butter, your skin will be left feeling soft, smooth and conditioned.

Although this scrub has coarse salt that’s more suitable for use on your body, you could use it on your face if it’s not sensitive. Otherwise, you could opt for the Ocean Salt Self Preserved which has added butters and oils that’ll be more delicate on your skin. But it doesn’t feel as refreshing as the original formula.

Saborino Morning Facial Sheet Mask, $19.90
image

A daily morning mask seems almost ridiculous, but this one is pretty magical. The avocado extract, peppermint extract, tea tree oil, and grapefruit peel oil work not only as a cleanser – it is also a skin-tightener, moisturiser and makeup primer. All. under. one. minute.

Besides cutting your skincare prep time, you’ll also feel fresh and ready to start the day thanks to the tea tree and grapefruit components.

Within this packet just below 20 dollars, you get 32 sheets for an entire month, with each costing less than 70 cents. What a steal!

Available at Guardian and Venus Beauty.

Tarte Pack Your Bags Eye Patch, $32
image

Coming from the crowd-favourite Rainforest of the Sea line, these gel eye patches are infused with an antioxidant complex.

It wakes you up instantly with a cooling, refreshing effect as it helps to soothe and hydrate your under-eye area with water infusion to quench the skin.

Formulated with gelified algae saturated with a coconut oil-infused serum, these patches, while waking you up, help to smooth, firm and illuminate your dark eye circles and eye bags. It fights puffiness and crow’s feet too.

Plus, the gel patch has a unique heat-activated technology that directly sends all the goodness to your skin for complete absorption. We tried it and we did not want to take it off. That’s how great it felt. It’s like killing two birds with one stone!

For added zing, use them straight out of the chiller.

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Essence Mist, $54
image

Stepping out of the shower in the morning on our sunny shores can sometimes leave you wishing you were in the comfort of your airconditioned bedroom. Yeap, we know, it’s frustrating. That’s when this face mist would come into play. This alcohol-free, balancing essence water mist helps your skin whether you’re at the dresser or the office.

The anti-inflammatory properties of cucumber extract in this mist perks you a little more with a cooling, calming effect on the skin. More so, it soothes and detoxifies your skin while the hyaluronic acid content hydrates your skin. If you have irritable skin, fret not – the mist is formulated with chamomile to calm skin.

We have a bottle of this at our desk to share if we ever need a little booster at work. Plus over makeup, it gives us a dewy and radiant finish. Need we say more?

Available here.

A great cream especially for Singapore. This eye gel cream from FRESH is so lightweight and sinks into your skin almost immediately – as long as you use just enough product.

The cream is formulated with all the things you’d need for a plump, moisturised and hydrated front – rosewater, bambara groundnut, hyaluronic acid and golden root extract to protect your skin too!

It’s perfect for using under your makeup since it doesn’t flake, plus feels soothing and refreshing thanks to its cucumber extract. Bonus: it’s great for every skin type!

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Mask, $55
image

Although this isn’t for everyday use, we’d say it’s a great pick at most thrice a week (read: Monday) when you’re in dire need of a wake-up call and an ultra quick-fix for dull, tired and sallow-looking skin.

This bubbling face mask sends a shot of oxygen your way and brightens your complexion to leave you with a youthful glow. With the aid of grape seed extract, vitamins C and E, your skin will revitalise, re-energise and be ready and charged up to protect you from damage.

Long story short: this quick five-minute mask will not only blast any trace of fatigue from your face, but it’ll most probubbly (get it) knock you out of that early morning daze.

Lush Tea Tree Water, $20
image

Formulated with tea tree, juniperberry and grapefruit water, this toner packs a punch for your skin. It keeps bacteria away, keeps your skin clear, clean and feeling refreshed. Furthermore, if you have oily or combination skin, this would be a great tea tree toner as it doesn’t leave a burning sensation.  And it smells hella good.

Besides using it in the morning before applying your makeup, you can also spritz it through the day to give your skin a clean and fresh sensation. I love leaving this in the fridge so it’s extra rejuvenating in the morning.

If you’d rather control how much product you’re using, spray the water on to a cotton pad and gently wipe it on your face after cleansing.

Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Eye Gel, $77
image

Also from the Triple Oxygen line is this eye gel from bliss that breathes life into your usually non-perky peepers. This is the first ever eye formula to contain caffeine to quickly depuff your under-eyes. Soft focus powders fade fine lines and oxygen revitalises your every blink with bright and rested eyes. To enhance the effect: a super-powered form of vitamin C.

Paired together with its smooth, non-greasy after-texture, hydrating and refreshing sensation, we’d say this would be a great help in perking your mornings.

Laneige Time Freeze Face Fit Roller, $77
image

We’ll jump in and say that this’ll be a great investment. You can use this in the AM or PM, it’ll firm up your face in the long-run and it’s sold out in practically most stockists.

Besides lifting your skin with a gentle and pleasant face massage – which gives you a youthful complexion and more defined features – it also helps to massage any products you use beforehand, into your skin.

This face-massager might not seem like much but pop it in the freezer and boy does it work wonders. Thanks to your relaxed facial muscles afterwards, you’ll find it a lil’ easier to face the day.

Available here.
