With their warm, sunny hues and delicate grace, these dos stand out from the season’s stark nude faces and hyper-dark eyes. Here, the prettiest ones you should try now.
Goth doesn’t have to mean looking like Morticia Addams. “For a softer look, add a light blush and diffuse your lip colour by blurring out the edges,” says makeup artist Melissa Yeo. For a bolder look, go with a well-defined lip and skip the blusher if your eye makeup is dark.

A dash of yellow on the eyes is cheery, fun and unexpected. And contrary to what you might think, the colour works well on most skin tones, whether it’s a striking pop of yellow or a pastel, buttery hue. Melissa says: “To make this look work for everyday wear, keep skin looking natural with a lightweight foundation or tinted moisturiser, and use light coral or natural lip colour. Mascara is a must, as the biggest issue with yellow eyeliner is that it can make eyes look undefined. Adding a thin black or dark brown liner just above the lash line helps too.”

Twiggy’s iconic doll- like eye makeup gets reinvented again. While the emphasis on lower lashes remains, the makeup on eyelids is now cleaner and more subtle. “Previously, the classic ’60s look involved using black eyeliner above the lash line – on the crease of the eyelid – and white or pop-coloured eyeshadow. To make it more modern, use neutral brown matte eyeshadow instead, and don’t draw a line on the crease,” says Melissa.

This blushing- English-rose do has an airy, whimsical feel to it, which is why skin should be kept fresh with minimal foundation. Melissa says: “Cream blush works well for this look. Apply it directly on the apples of the cheeks and blend out towards the temples. Brows should be groomed, but keep it light-handed – simply brush upwards lightly with a brow gel.

There are definite pros to wearing orange- and red-tinged browns. Not only do they warm up pale complexions, they also create a sporty-sultry effect. Melissa advises choosing russet- coloured makeup of different intensities and tones for different parts of the face, such as a light, orangey brown for eyes and a more reddish shade for lips. Using different finishes like matte and shimmery works too when trying to create more dimension. Apply dark russet shades with a light hand to avoid a muddy appearance, especially over a larger area like the cheeks.
