Dubbed as the Oscars of Korea, the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards took place on Friday (5 June) and hosted the biggest names in the Korean film and television industry. When the nominations were released in early May, there were no sure bets on who would take home the biggest titles of the night, especially with the number of actors and actresses that had breakthrough roles this past year.
In the end, Kim Hee-ae beat out Crash Landing on You’s Son Ye-jin and Hotel del Luna’s IU to win one of the most coveted prizes of the night, Leading actress in TV, for her role in The World of the Married. Other actresses and nominees that appeared on the step and repeat caught our eyes as well and we’re making sure to take copious notes, particularly because we could always do with some fresh #beautyinspo from our favourite Korean celebs.
Here, we give you the lowdown on the best beauty looks of the night that can be easily recreated for a day at the office or even for a girls’ night out (after the post circuit breaker measures are eased, of course).
This is the third consecutive year that the Vagabond actress was asked to be the emcee of the night for the Baeksang Arts Awards. Joined by Shin Dongyup and Park Bogum as fellow emcees, she took to the stage in a silk dress that perfectly complemented her low pony and sleek makeup.
Cop her look by using a rosy blush to bring some colour onto your cheeks. And instead of the usual powdered blush, opt for a cream blush that’ll blend in easily into your skin without it looking patchy. Tie the look together with a mauve lip tint for that just-bitten gradient lip effect.
Ever since her breakout role as Yoon Se-ri on Crash Landing on You, Son Ye-jin has constantly been in the limelight, and Friday night at the awards show was no different. Not only did she take home the award for Most Popular Actress, she also caught our eyes with her classic red lip and iconic cat eye.
If you’re recreating her eyeliner look, try angling your liner downwards for a more innocent look and to give the illusion of bigger eyes. As for the lips, nothing screams red carpet ready than a bright red lip. Don’t forget to pop on a clear gloss over your lipstick for extra shine.
The 53-year-old actress took home the grand prize of the night: Leading Actress in TV for her role in The World of the Married, which was no surprise given that the show is currently the highest rated drama in Korean television history.
Kim Hee-ae definitely has a knack for looking younger than she actually is and even though we might not know her secrets to keeping her youth, our best guess is that she looks young by keeping her makeup simple.
Cop her no-makeup makeup look by giving your brows some definition so you look awake and put together. Using your favourite eyebrow pencil, draw thin, hair-like strokes on your brows to fill in any bare spots. Complete the look by keeping them in place with a clear brow gel.
Seo Ji-hye took home the coveted Bazaar Fashion Icon award on Friday night which we all felt was a super deserving win, especially since she’s known for her iconic outfits and classy style. But her red carpet ensemble was not all that caught our attention – we loved how she kept her makeup simple, so the highlight of her look would be her radiant complexion.
To achieve a finish that’s similar to hers, opt for a hydrating foundation instead of matte one. That way, your skin will have a natural glow without looking too dry or cakey. Don’t forget to top it off with an illuminating highlighter for extra radiance.
P.S. you’re really looking to get inspiration from Seo Ji-hye, try adding a dainty clip to your hair like her character Seo Dan did in Crash Landing on You.
Kim Da-mi’s role in the hit Netflix series Itaewon Class may have been her television debut, but that didn’t stop her from winning the Best New Actress in TV at this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards. We loved how she kept her makeup simple, with the focus drawn towards her large eyes and long eyelashes.
If you’re going for false lashes, remember to let your lash glue set for about 20 seconds before placing your falsies on. The tackiness from the glue will allow for an easy, fuss-free application. But if you’re going the mascara route, opt for a volumising and lengthening mascara to get the job done.
You may remember Jung Yu-mi for her role in the movie Kim Ji-young: Born 1982, in which she was nominated Leading Actress in Film for. Although she didn’t win, she was clearly the talk of the town when she grazed the red carpet with her sequinned Chanel dress and sleeked-back hair.
We also love how she kept her makeup classy by opting for a nude lip to let her defined brows and fierce cat eye take center stage. Cop her look by using a pencil liner instead of a gel one, which makes it easier to blend out the pigment for a classy smoky eye effect.
If you’re looking for a girly makeup look with a fun feminine touch, you’ll probably want to take inspiration from Han So-hee. She was nominated in the New Actress in TV category for her role in The World of the Married at this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards.
And while she might not have taken home the coveted title, we’re definitely taking home some beauty tips from this young actress. We love how she paired a bright pink lip gloss with a coral blush and kept the rest of her makeup simple to allow the rosy shades to shine. If you’re going for such bold colours on your lips and cheeks too, remember to go easy on the eyes so your makeup looks put together and not overdone.
