Best luxury beauty buys to get your mum this Mother's Day
The Best Luxury Beauty Products to Buy for Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a day to express your gratitude for the unconditional love and care that your mum has showered on you. So if you’re looking to gift her something, it should be thoughtful and beautiful, and feel luxe too. Here are our best picks:
Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion EX Phoenix Limited Edition, $80 (case and two refills)
Inspired by an auspicious animal painting that conveys the message of harmony and prosperity in the family, the Phoenix Collection limited-edition packaging features a pair of birds that symbolise auspicious energy. Housed in the beautiful packaging is the brand’s Perfection Cushion EX, which has a mushroom extract to keep skin hydrated. A technology called Slim Fit High Coverage gives the foundation a lightweight, easy-to-blend and long-lasting coverage too.
Sylvie Chantecaille first launched her fragrance house in 1998. Today, she is bringing back one of the best-selling fragrances, the Darby Rose. And it’s coming back in a limited-edition packaging that is a collaboration between de Gournay, a haute couture design house known for its artisanal hand-painted wallpaper and fabrics.
It’s not just the packaging that’s exquisite. This rose scent dries down to notes of sandalwood and patchouli but is not overtly complicated, which makes it a great everyday fragrance for Mum.
For Mother’s Day, Dior Makeup’s creative and image director has come up with three limited-edition shades – #355 Rayonnante is a pearly nude with a white gold finish, #461 Adoree is a pearly pink with a pink gold finish, and #551 Joyeuse is a pearly peach with a yellow gold finish.
The shades are not overly daring, which makes them suitable for laidback, casual mums. They are meant to be paired with the brand’s J’adore fragrances (EDP, EDT and Joy, respectively) so if you think a lipstick’s (or a set of three) not extravagant enough as a gift, you can get it with the respective perfumes too.
Floraiku Shadow fragrances, $475 each, from Escentials
Inspired by Japanese haiku poetry, Floraiku is a luxury French perfume brand founded by the same people who created fragrance brand Memo Paris. What’s special about this new brand is that it has a line of scents called shadows, which is supposed to be layered over your existing perfume to complement it, like a shadow (figuratively).
There are two variants, Sleeping on the Roof and Between Two Trees. The former lightens up your existing fragrance while the latter adds intensity. The perfume sets come in a “bento” box comprising a 50ml bottle and a 10ml cylinder which you can slot into the opulent cap (that’s the one that looks like a painting) to bring it out when you travel – practical and thoughtful.
History of Whoo Gongjinghyang Seol Radiant White Moisture Cushion Foundation Special Edition, $77
This 3D cushion case is great as a gift for Mum because of the intricacy of the design. Inspired by a royal arts crafting method specially used only for the Empress of Joseon, this cushion case shows spring flowers in full bloom. The foundation itself has skincare benefits, and is supposed to brighten skin with every use. It also gives long-lasting coverage and impart a healthy glow to your complexion. Plus, it has SPF 45 to protect skin against harmful UV rays.
If you’re intending to splurge on skincare for Mum, go for this luxurious mask from Guerlain. It has Abyssinian oil which is rich in fatty acids to hydrate and protect skin, and Candeia oil and Tephrosia seed extract to soothe and calm skin while reducing skin inflammation. There’s also a diamond dermal powder to impart a healthy glow to complexions. The mask uses a Cell Respiration Technology to deliver a boost of oxygen to skin cells. You can use it as a 10-minute mask (tissue off the excess) or leave it on overnight to wake up to softer, glowing skin.
This smart masking device warms, cools and pulsates, and comes with LED light therapy so you can shorten your 20-minute masking routine to just 90 seconds. It requires a bit of tech know-how to operate the device, but you could always bring your mum through the steps, or better yet, mask with her for some quality bonding time like what Seo Hyun-jin’s character did with her mum in the K-drama Beauty Inside.
