This year’s Academy Awards had its ups and downs: while many were celebrating Bong Joon-ho’s historic wins for his hit film Parasite, others were discussing whether Renée Zellweger really deserved the coveted title for Best Actress.

As always, many have taken to social media to rave about the best and rant about the worst that happened on Sunday night at the Dolby Theater in the heart of Los Angeles. And while we were lauding the global phenomenon that is Parasite, we couldn’t help but notice the women that walked the red carpet in gorgeous gowns and eye-catching makeup to match.

So, here are our favourite beauty looks from the Academy Awards that we’ll be taking down as inspiration for when we need to pull out all the stops.

Hailee Steinfeld

When we saw singer-songwriter Hailee Steinfeld step onto the red carpet, we knew that her makeup look was one we could emulate for a day at the office, or even a date night. Not only did we love her fluffy brows, but we couldn’t help but look at how she pulled off orange eyeshadow.

If you’re giving this eye look a go, go for an orange eyeshadow that matches your skin tone, and blend it outwards with a fluffy brush to eliminate harsh lines. Don’t forget mascara: you’ll need long, luscious lashes to tie the look together. Top it all off with a peachy lipstick and a touch of gloss over that for a shiny, kissable pout.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star appeared at the Oscars with her beau, Kanye West in hand. She donned a nude ruffled gown and opted for a makeup look that made her eyes the star of the show.

If you’re looking to recreate her eye look, reach for a jet black pencil liner instead of the usual ink liner so you get more control and a better blend. Don’t forget to line your lower lashline for that extra glam factor. Tie it together with a red lip for a girls night out or a nude shade like Kim did if you want a more natural finish.

The Big Little Lies star finally caught her big break and won her first Oscar of her career for Best Supporting Actress for her turn as Nora in Marriage Story. The 53-year-old got all glammed up for her big night by keeping her makeup simple, yet super radiant and glowy.

She let her baby blues shine by pairing it with a couple of mascara coats and placed focus on her blushed cheekbones instead. If you’re trying out this look, remember to blend your highlighter towards your temple for maximum shine, and finish the look with a pink lipstick  (here’s how to choose the right pink lipstick for your skintone) to keep the look simple yet classy.

With two Academy Awards nominations under her belt, the Avengers star was the talk of the night. Although she didn’t win, she definitely won the prize for best dressed on the red carpet, if there was an award for that.

Her makeup look was stunning as well – she took the classic no-makeup makeup look and glammed it up. Recreate her eye look by adding a dash of shimmery shadow on your inner corners and opt for a darker glitter shade for the outer corners. Top it all off with a pink blush for flushed cheeks and a pink gloss that will spruce up any outfit.

When you’re at the Oscars, a red lipstick could never go wrong. And that’s what the Suicide Squad actress did on Sunday night, as she looked as stunning as always.

When you’re going for a rich lip colour like Margot did, don’t forget to line your lips with a pencil liner that matches the shade of your lipstick, so the colour doesn’t bleed throughout the night. Tie the look together with a simple eye look: just some mascara and a dash of pink eyeshadow will do. Whip out a setting spray after you’re done with your makeup to ensure your look lasts all day.

Renée Zellweger

Renée Zellweger won the coveted Oscar for Best Actress on Sunday for her portrayal of Judy Garland in the 2019 film Judy. This is the actress’ second Oscar win in her career and although there were critics, many thought the win was extremely well deserved.

She appeared on the step and repeat with a classic makeup look that seems to be her go-to at every award show. Chiseled cheekbones, long lashes and pink lipstick – a look that’ll be perfect for a date night, if you ask us. Don’t forget to dust some highlighter on your nose and forehead like Renée did to show off your glowy, radiant complexion.
