Much like how we use technology and apps to make our lives better and easier, we can also depend on beauty devices to improve our skincare routine. From cleansing tools that ensure a deeper cleanse to ones that use light or electrical currents to fight signs of ageing, we’ve rounded up 10 beauty devices you have to incorporate to give your mien a refresh now.

1. Clarisonic Mia Smart, S$266.30 from iShopChangi

The first step to any good skincare routine is proper cleansing. We especially love Clarisonic for its patented sonic oscillation technology (of over 300 movements per second) to thoroughly cleanse the skin from the day’s debris. Choose a brush head according to your needs — they have a good selection, whether you have sensitive skin, are buying for your man or want to get a deep cleanse — and pair it with a gentle facial wash. Clarisonic also has brush heads to apply foundation or to massage the eyes and face.

2. Foreo Luna 3 For Sensitive Skin, S$299 from Sephora

If the Clarisonic and its bristle brush heads are too abrasive for your sensitive skin but you’re still looking for a deeper cleanse than what your fingers can provide, opt for the Foreo Luna instead. Foreo employs its proprietary T-Sonic technology that pulsates to clean, and the best part is its silicone touchpoints mean that you don’t have to replace the head every few months like the Clarisonic. It also has an inbuilt firming massage function that helps reduce the signs of ageing. Foreo Luna has different iterations for normal, combination and sensitive skin types too.

3. CF Magic Mask, S$1,890 from By Peapods

Light therapy employs different wavelengths of light to impart a rejuvenating effect on the skin. This futuristic design uses infrared rays that penetrate deep into the skin to boost blood circulation and raise skin temperature. This in turn, is said to help skin cell regeneration and strengthen skin resilience. The mask also targets the scalp to reduce hair loss and aid hair growth. The brand recommends using the mask daily for 15 minutes. For those who want to give the machine a test first, By Peapods also allows rental of the Magic Mask at S$399 a month.

4. Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro, S$709 from Sephora
image

This Dr. Dennis Gross FaceWare Pro is another face mask that uses light therapy. It uses both red and blue light — the former penetrates into the dermis to stimulate collagen production while the latter kills acne-causing bacteria and reduces future breakouts, redness and inflammation. Choose between three settings (red, blue or a combination) and use the mask for the treatment time of three minutes for brighter, better complexion. To be used after cleansing and before other skincare steps.

5. Skin Inc Optimizer Voyage Tri-Light, S$398 from Sephora
image

This Skin Inc device is suited for those who want a more targeted approach when using light therapy. There are three light settings available: Red to repair skin cells and stimulate collagen production, blue to treat acne and sensitive skin and yellow for brightening. Each will bring you a step closer to smoother, healthier skin. The device works on removable batteries and is meant to be used after you have applied your serum or face mask. Skin Inc recommends to use the device up to twice daily, 10 minutes each time.

6. ReFa Carat Face Massager, S$280 from Sephora
image

After a night of indulgence, or just a long, tiring day, your face can look haggard and bloated. A facial massager, like this one from ReFa, provides lymphatic massage to drain excess fluids from the face and reduce swelling. Working synergistically with microcurrent technology (powered by a solar panel on the handle), this ReFa massager lifts and tightens the skin while encouraging collagen production to help ease the signs of ageing. You can also use this on your body for a head to toe self-pampering routine.

7. Jade Roller Beauty Jade Roller Tiger’s Eye by JRB, S$114 from Sephora

Another alternative to face massagers are facial rollers made from gemstones. This iteration from Jade Roller Beauty uses Tiger’s Eye, that’s said to be efficacious against hormonal breakouts. The brand also has other variants that use jade, rose quartz and amethyst, for example. To get a more soothing and relaxing result, place the roller in the fridge and use it cold. As with facial massagers, swipe the roller upwards to counteract the effects of gravity.

8. Banish Banisher 2.0, US$69 (S$95.59)
image

Microneedling is a method to stimulate skin repair by intentionally injuring it with tiny holes — great for people who want to treat acne scars and wrinkles. Microneedling is also said to help skincare penetrate deeper. This tool from Banish uses 24k gold plated titanium bristles that tout antibacterial properties, and is said to improve the appearance of acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles by naturally promoting collagen and skin renewal.

Before and after each use, remember to sterilise the needles by filling the accompanying cap with rubbing alcohol. Press down on the area with even pressure. Use the device after cleansing and before applying of serums.

Specially created for the delicate skin around the eyes, this massaging tool uses high frequency vibration to rejuvenate, stimulate collagen production and provide a tightening effect. Especially great for tired or bloated mornings, use this in conjunction with your eye cream. Its compact size also means that you can pop it into your handbag and give yourself a perk-me-up during the day.

10. Ziip Beauty Ziip Device + Golden Conductive Gel Duo, US$494.27 (S$684.76) from Net-a-Porter

Besides light therapy, electrical microcurrent is also said to help combat the signs of ageing by aiding cell renewal and collagen synthesis. This device, when used in conjunction with its Golden (for firmness and anti-ageing) or Silver (hydration and brightening) Conductive Gels that are packed with actives including hyaluronic acid and snail venom peptide, delivers small electrical currents to stimulate cell regeneration and collagen production for a more youthful-looking glow. Use is after your cleansing routine.
