The festive season is upon us! The Christmas and New Year parties may be smaller and more intimate this year, but that also means that there’s a lot more up-close gazing, where every flaw and pore on your face would be open to scrutiny. In anticipation of the intimate gatherings you will be attending, here are three aesthetics treatments from Privé Clinic that deliver natural, instantaneous results.

Try: Fillers and Botox

As we grow older, our skin loses collagen and fat, making it thinner, wrinkled and saggy. What can help to fill in deep-set wrinkles and lines, and replace lost volume, especially under the eyes? Dermal fillers, which are injected into your skin.

Also known as “liquid facelifts”, fillers can add definition to a flat facial profile, giving areas such as the nose, chin or cheeks more prominence.

But that’s not all. Fillers are a versatile treatment and can even be used to encourage collagen production in skin, so your face looks tighter and firmer.

Even better, the results are instantaneous, although Dr Karen Soh, medical director of Privé Clinic, recommends doing them at least one week before an important occasion as “there may be bruising at the injection site”.

However, if pronounced expression lines bother you more, and make you look older than you are, consider botulinum toxin injections instead, which works by freezing the muscles to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Dr Soh says it would take approximately one week to see the full effects of your Botox injections, so schedule your treatment at least one week before your event. “It takes some time for your body to ‘use up’ the acetylcholine (what your muscles release when in movement) that’s already circulating,” she says.

If you’re afraid that these injectable treatments might end up making you look unnatural, Dr Soh has this advice:

• Ask your friends for recommendations. “Word of mouth is one of the most reliable and credible sources as the referrer would have spent time interacting with the doctor.”

• Find a clinic with a wide range of different types and brands of injectables, and a variety of alternative treatments. “This helps prevent any bias when discussing treatment options with the doctor.”

• Go to a well-established clinic with a good track record. “It is always good to check how experienced the doctor is with the treatment before proceeding.”

For overall skin rejuvenation and reduced pigmentation

Try: PicoSure Laser

PicoSure Laser delivers energy in super-fast pulses to address pigmentation caused by excess melanin in the skin. This extreme speed (one trillionth of a second, to be exact, hence the name) means it takes less time for the skin to heat up, which reduces the risk of damage, burns and even hyper-pigmentation.

How PicoSure works: When the laser light is absorbed by these pigmented clusters, the vibrations break the melanin particles into really fine dust that is easily and naturally removed by the body.

In addition, PicoSure can also be used to promote collagen and elastin production as it converts the laser energy into a gentle pressure that activates a natural cell-signalling process. Your skin then “remodels” itself to reduce lines, wrinkles and sagging.

If you’re looking to PicoSure to refresh your skin and looks, there is very little downtime, which means you can schedule the treatment as close as a day before your gathering.

However, when treating pigmentation and/or acne scars, Dr Soh recommends at least three to six months prior “to allow the skin to regenerate and produce new collagen and elastin fibres, depending on your skin condition”.

Try: Prive Ultimate Glow

A combination of two aesthetics treatments – Discovery Pico laser and Vitamin C Facial  – Prive Ultimate Glow not only instantly brightens your complexion for healthy, dewy glow, but also leaves it smooth and refined.

According to Dr Soh, this combo works well for “an overall skin rejuvenation to keep skin clear, healthy and glowing”. The Pico laser “targets the dermis layer to stimulate collagen production, while the facial targets the surface layers of the skin to remove dead skin cells, and infuses pure Vitamin C to hydrate and brighten skin”.

Best bit? It comes with little downtime, which makes it an ideal treatment to do as close as a day to three days before your event.

For long-term maintenance, Dr Soh recommends doing this treatment once a month. “With consistent monthly sessions, you may also experience a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as lightened pigmentation and post-acne marks or scars.”

What you should do to prolong your treatment results
image

Now that your complexion is glowing and youthful-looking, it’s time to keep it this way for as long as possible. To prolong the lifespan of your aesthetic treatments, Dr Soh recommends three easy must-dos:

#1: Keep skin well-hydrated. Hydrating the skin is even more crucial if you’ve done laser treatments, as lasers can dry out the skin. So make sure to include a hydrating serum or mask in the days following a laser treatment.

#2: Apply sunscreen with UV and blue light protection daily.Yes, even if you’re staying home. This is because the harmful rays (both UV and blue light) can cause free radicals that make you age faster, which in turn results in injectables like fillers breaking down faster too.

#3: Eat your antioxidants.Consuming a good collagen supplement with antioxidants regularly could also help fight free radical damage to keep skin looking youthful for longer.
