7 Signs It's Time To Say 'I Love You' To Your Boyfriend

It doesn't matter who says it first, what's more important is that the three words are uttered at the right time

You've met a new man, things have been going swimmingly and you've never been happier because he's simply amazing. But is it time for you to confess how you feel? Saying 'I love you' is a big step in a relationship so how do you know if you're ready? Here are seven signs that will tell you it's time.

It's not too early

You can't tell someone you love them just a week after meeting, even if you feel they're the soulmate you've been waiting for. If you reveal your feelings too early, the risk is that you could scare him away – and you definitely don't want that, do you? What you feel at the start is probably more infatuation than love anyway. So take the time to get to know him and, while there's no set amount of time that must have passed before you declare your love, you must have reached a stage where you are sure it's not just a superficial feeling.

You trust him

Trust is an extremely important aspect in a relationship. It is only when you completely trust someone that you can love them too. It can even be as simple as the fact you trust that he won't laugh in your face if you say it. But if you truly believe he's someone you can depend on and who has your back, go ahead and say those words.

So you've told him you're looking for a long-term relationship and he has said he doesn't want just a fling either. It feels like you both feel the same way in terms of where the relationship is going and you're personally ready to take it to the next level. It is then time for you to tell him how you feel.

He shows the signs too

He might not have said those words but his actions have shown he probably feels the same way as you. He always makes sure you're okay, he listens when you talk about your problems, he goes out of his way to send you home and he changes plans with his friends just so he can spend time with you. This means you can be confident he's going to be comfortable with you saying those three words because he's pretty much already told you how he feels without actually saying it.

You don't have any baggage

Before you can love someone, you must be sure that you're ready to love someone. And one thing that holds most of us back when it comes to relationships is emotional baggage. Don't just think that you're falling in love because you want to prove to yourself that you can love again or because you just heard your ex has moved on. Be fair to your new man and only tell him you love him if you know you're capable of giving your best to make it work.

You want to

Make sure you have a clear head and know exactly why you want to tell him how you feel. Don't say it because you want to manipulate him for any reason or if you think it'll make him like you more. Only blurt out your feelings if you genuinely feel that way and because you want him to know how you feel.

It feels right

A lot of the time, love is a gut feeling and you have to trust your gut. Pay attention to both your heart and your head and consider how this person makes you feel. If he truly makes you happy and you've been cautious about not letting your feelings overwhelm you, you're probably on the right track to saying 'I love you'.
