With the rise of the sharing economy, it may actually be more practical to “borrow” designer clothing. After all, it’s better to borrow than spend a bomb on a piece you ‘need’ for that wedding…only for it to never see the light of day again.

If, like us, you fantasise of an unlimited designer closet, it’s now totally possible without breaking the bank.

Here are four fashion rental websites, each offering slightly different perks, so you never have to scramble to find a perfect designer outfit again.

Style Lease

Style Lease carries more than 50 international labels, from stylish ready-to-wear to glamorous red carpet gowns. Simply filter by size, colour and occasion to find the best piece, choose a delivery and return date and timing, and rent for four days. When you’re done, concierge picks up your items at the arranged date and timing – you don’t have to worry about dry cleaning and return shipping costs.

If you prefer to try on before you rent, you can pop by their showroom to get a stylist’s advice. Or if you’re too busy to go down for a fitting, Style Lease offers a “1+2” booking option, which means when you reserve your favourite dress, you’ll get two backup dresses delivered at the price of one.

Rent A Dress

Launched in Kuala Lumpur in 2014 and subsequently in Singapore in 2015, Rent A Dress has helped fashion conscious women in these countries save more than $2.8 million. To ensure that all dresses are authentic, dresses are sourced internationally from designers themselves or affiliated accredited sources.

Garments can be rented for a period of four or eight days, and you can choose from different rental packs if you want a variety of clothes to easily switch things up. For instance, with “Regular Pack – Short”, you get six short dresses valid for nine months, for just $230.

There is a pre-authorisation charge which is the same amount as the rental price, and it will be refunded when the dress is returned and passes inspection. You can also opt for an $8 insurance fee to cover major damages of the dress up to $50.

Covetella is Singapore’s first online marketplace for fashion rentals. It offers Compliment Guarantee, so you don’t have to pay for a dress you didn’t have a good experience in. The website also lists events, some of which it has partnerships with, like the US Navy Ball, where guests can get a discount on dress rentals with the promo code provided.

Alterations are available at an additional cost. Once you’re done with your dress, the company will arrange for a courier to pick it up, and it takes care of the shipping and dry cleaning.
