Star Awards — Singapore’s annual celebration of the best in Channel 8 entertainment took place last night with lots of billowing drama on the red carpet.
Plenty of stars attempted to bring their A-game to the red carpet but we are not sure if they managed to meet our expectations. This year, it seems like there was a penchant for floor-grazing gowns paired with minimal jewellery.
Not everyone can be a winner when it comes to fashion. While there were some lust-worthy looks, there were also some that just fell flat. Scroll down to find out what 12 of the most popular actresses wore and if you agree with us!
1. Zoe Tay
Wearing: Valentino gown and Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery
Of course, we can trust the red carpet veteran to wow us. I love the striking cape gown in a deep red hue, so befitting of her queen status. Did you know that the combined cost of the jewellery on her is more than a million dollars? Those earrings were only worn by royalty!
2. Jeanette Aw
Wearing: Valentino gown and Cartier jewellery
We love this refreshing and slightly seductive gown on Jeanette. She has always had a more conservative girl-next-door persona and this dress definitely switches things up by miles.
3. Qi Yu Wu & Joanne Peh
Wearing: Ermenegildo Zegna suit and Peter Langner gown
I know I know it’s a list of red carpet looks from the female stars but I couldn’t help myself. Isn’t this such a cute photo of them? Qi Yu Wu looking dapper in his Ermenegildo Zegna suit while Joanne Peh sure knows how to work a plunging neckline. The metallic blue hue also complements her skin tone perfectly.
4. Sheila Sim
Wearing: Ralph Lauren gown and Pomellato jewellery
Very few people would opt for such a dress with such loud colours and daring prints, but I am glad Sheila did because she nailed it!
5. Julie Tan
Wearing: Romona Keveza gown and Tiffany & Co. jewellery
I love how the dress hugs her every curve, flattering her figure perfectly. The earrings and bangles also helped to add some sparkle to the entire look. My only gripe is that the white makes it seem a little too bridal.
6. Rebecca Lim
Wearing: Ashistudio Couture gown and Goldheart jewellery
Quite a daring take on red carpet glamour, definitely a head-turner!
7. Felicia Chin
Wearing: Paolo Sebastian gown and David gan jewellery
The ‘naked dress’ and has become a steady part of the fashion vernacular, as they’ve been worn by almost all of Hollywood’s A-listers. I have to say Felicia looked pretty damn fearless this daring number. She wore it well, but I question the hairdo.
8. Rui En
Wearing: Romona Keveza gown and Cartier jewellery
I fell in love with Rui En’s super soft and romantic makeup look for the show last night; I need to know what shade of lipstick she is wearing! Unfortunately, I am not sure if I am feeling the dress. She looks stunning in it no doubt, but I felt like the pure white dress with a long train had too much of a bridal vibe.
9. Paige Chua
Wearing: Vaughn Tan gown and Mikimoto jewellery
Looks like white was a really popular colour on the red carpet this year. Paige looks gorgeous, and I thought that the half up ponytail gave the feminine look a refreshing spin.
10. Carrie Wong
Wearing: Alice and Olivia dress and Damaini jewellery
Carrie Wong is a beautiful girl but when you put in her lanky figure in a dress with awkward layers of ruffles and frills, coupled with a very haphazard hairstyle, she just looks like she tumbled out of a club.
11. Priscelia Chan
Wearing: Vaughn Tan gown and Damiani jewellery
Spectacular earrings, but I am not quite sure of the gown. I felt that the splits and thick fabric were a bit too much for her petite frame.
12. Tong Bing Yu
Wearing: Moschino dress and Damiani jewellery
Not really sure where this look is going with the very awkward puffy bows. The dress might have worked better if she was a bit more daring with her accessories instead of toning the quirky dress down with feminine shoes and clutch.
