Ask anyone what their first Kate Spade bag was, you’d probably get this answer: the Sam tote.

If you blew your first paycheque on the iconic boxy tote, you will be thrilled to know that the nylon handbag, first produced in 1993, made a triumphant return in Kate Spade’s 2018 New York Fashion Week presentation.

The 2018 version of the box shape bag is not exactly the same as the one produced 25 years ago. New materials like leather and wicker were used to make the bag. The refreshed Sam bag also comes in a wide array of patterns and colours. The simplicity of the Sam tote makes it the perfect everyday bag.

Aside from the reintroduction of the bag that placed the American brand on the map, there is something for everyone in the 2018 Spring/Summer ready to wear collection. Veering slightly from its usual nouveau riche preppy style, this collection is more casual and laidback. Think loose flowy frocks, vintage silhouettes in bold floral print and a smattering of gingham.

Drawing inspiration from playful and romantic spirit of the New Orleans, this collection is fun and flirty yet wearable at the same time. If you’re looking for bags to lug around your next beach holiday, the “Southern Charm” collection has you covered like a beach umbrella. It seems like the wicker bag trend that was all the rage this summer isn’t going anywhere.

A standout piece is the whimsical wicker bag shaped like a crocodile. The picnic basket with a pink lid, embellished with poms poms, is also another head turner we can’t wait to get our hands on. These summer bags are best for weekend brunch dates. If you’re not sure how to style these quirky bags, keep your outfit simple and relaxed. They look phenomenal when teamed with a ripped jeans and slides.

For ladies who prefer something more ladylike, the collection does not disappoint. Keep your eyes peeled for feminine structured bags in romantic hues like blush, cream and strawberry.

The collection also saw the 80s cult classic making a comeback. Fanny packs might not be for everyone but it will certainly come in handy if you’re going to a music festival.
