Could kulør (say “cooler”) be the new Danish catchphrase to know? Translated as “to add colour and fun”, it seems to be the perfect follow-up to the hygge (say “hoo-ga”) wave of the past two years that champions the Scandi way of living that champions cosiness and life’s simple pleasures. Incidentally, the word is also the moniker of Skagen’s new watch line, Aaren Kulør, which takes its cues from the iconic colourful harbour houses that line the waterfront of Copenhagen’s Nyhavn district.
The colour palette of the Aaren Kulør collection is a nod to the vibrant facade of houses in Copenhagen’s Nyhavn district.
The collection ($179) is now available at Tangs at Tang Plaza, Takashimaya D.S., OG People’s Park and Zalora. In a break from the brand’s usual muted colour palette of grey and silver, this debut collection features minimalist-looking timepieces in five playful Pantone-worthy hues that include marigold yellow to royal blue.
The debut collection comes in five peppy hues including royal blue.
That aside, the watches still retain a quintessential Scandi design trademark with their thoughtful construction and function. The utilitarian 41mm aluminium case comes with a sandblasted dial. The indexes are presented in a modern san serif typeface while the subdial for tracking the seconds is discreetly situated at the six o’clock position. For those who prefer to change up the look of their tickers, a quick-release pin construction makes changing the 20mm silicone bracelet a cinch.
A new colour will be added to the collection every season.
