This fall, futuristic themes are in — and by that, we mean high impact, high shine, metallic silver. Models wearing this blazing shade have been hitting the runways, but don’t fret — while silver can be a head-turning statement trend, it’s way more wearable than it looks.

Go bold with a gown seen at Alberta Ferretti, or something muted and understated, like an outerwear piece or a pair of straight-cut trousers from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Christian Dior. Need a party dress? Halpern and Virgil Abloh’s Off-White have got you covered. Here are more tips on how you can carry off this look without looking like a space cadet.

1. A fancy top that you can wear out in both days and nights

For something a little less blinding, go for pops of silver rather than a complete head-to-toe look. We suggest a long-sleeved silver sequin top that works just fine for both day and night. It’s shiny, it’s celebratory, and it’s perfect for the Christmas season. Jazz it up with some jeans and a straw bag if you’re running errands during the weekends, or don a pair of wide-legged pants and a clutch for a dinner party.

2. A full on pants-suit for the working girl

If you’re looking to be more bold in your outfit choices, consider introducing silver into your working wardrobe as well. All you have to do is to pick the right suit. We’ve selected one that comes with a crinkled texture to make it a tad more interesting. Either wear it as a coordinate or split the suit up — blazer for Mondays and pants on Friday — to achieve more bang for your buck.

3. An understated dress that’s great for any event

A slinky silver maxi is a must-have! Exuding both relaxed elegance yet still exquisitely glamorous, its figure-hugging smooth silhouette will definitely turn heads. Instead of going for one that’s super ostentatious (thus running the risk of you not being able to re-wear it), choose one that comes in a more muted hue, like this one.

4. The casual date-worthy skirt

Silver can be a little intimidating for a casual date outfit, so leave your silver power suit at home and go for a simple metallic skirt. It’s tamer, yet still a bold fashion choice. Instead of pairing your silver skirt with a monochromatic palette, go for bright hues that complement one another: Green, orange and red scream “fun” and are perfect for a first impression date.

5. Let the soles speak for themselves

Here’s a way to incorporate the silver trend without it being over-the-top: Go for a pair of trendy silver footwear instead, such as this pair of booties. Finish off the look with a pair of black jeans and printed blouse, then add a pair of crystal earrings to up the glam factor. Make sure your jeans are cropped so you can show off those booties.
