Aside from festivals and self-proclaimed ‘bohomeians’ on Instagram, we haven’t seen fringing take the fashion centre stage for a while now. That is, until S/S ‘18 catwalks showed us how to take it up a notch in the style stakes. Powerhouse designers from Celine, Loewe to Bottega Veneta including many others bought back the fringed pieces for this season. Oh and if that isn’t enough sway, Rihanna was seen wearing Saint Laurent’s fringed boots which makes the trend an instant global hit, natch.

The twist this season is that, the traditional fringing effect of festival / summer / boho life is a far cry from what we were served on the runway, and now in stores too. Designers have reworked the trend to give it a more elevated, strong and powerful feel. No longer does it suit a flower braid and pink circular sunglasses – it is to be worn with ankle boots, shirts and a whole host of attitude.
