Gucci x Unskilled Worker

All art aficionados, rejoice! Gucci will be launching a 40-piece exclusive collection in collaboration with a self-taught artist working under the moniker of Unskilled Worker. The London-based artist is a perennial free-spirit, drawing inspiration from all forms of influences and explores her works without boundaries.

Her energetic use of colour and dreamy childlike innocence paint the canvas across all her works. Creative Director Alessandro Michele first discovered Helen Downie (the artist’s nom de plume) back in 2015 when he discovered her fascinating work laced with wit and playfulness evocative of the eclectic spirit of Gucci on Instagram. Boasting of 248k followers to date, Unskilled Worker has then formed a stronger bond with the House; which is now to be expressed in this innovative collaboration.

Featuring a capsule collection of ready-to-wear, shoes, bags, silks and accessories fused with artwork of portraits and floral designs by the artist in her signature naïve style, the collaboration went on sale online yesterday (Oct 11).

Gucci x Unskilled Worker collection, price TBC. Available now on gucci.com markets only.

Voltaire.Visions X Simon Ng Collab 17/18

Voltaire.Visions, a Singaporean fashion label, which emulates a minimal aesthetic, is collaborating with local oil painter Simon Ng who will paint portraits on its clothes. Having completed his artistic training in 2009, Simon’s works have been included in many exhibitions and private collections across Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Stockholm, Hong Kong and Oslo.

For the collaboration 2017 collection, inspiration was taken from Simon’s existing oil paintings on portraits of faceless personalities. This collaboration is also a debut for VOLTAIRE.VISIONS’ Menswear line, consisting of five looks, while the other five looks are from the Womenswear line.

The collection exudes an air of mystery in an abstract state – taking form on the luxurious Japanese-sourced fabrics as artful illustrations and impressions of human faces. Irregular seams and asymmetrical hemlines can be seen on A-line wool dresses, work jackets, straight cut jeans and deconstructed jackets; a witness to the enigmatic air surrounding the collaboration.

Voltaire.Visions X Simon Ng collection, $150 – $650. Available for pre-order at voltairevisions.com
