Show off your best assets in a stylish skater skirt over the coming months, if you want to be ahead of the fashion pack.

The benefits of this sassy catwalk favourite are two-fold: not only does the A-Line cut highlight your waist, but the mid-thigh length hits your leg at its most flattering point, making your pins appear slender without revealing too much skin. Even better, the skater skirt can be worn in multiple ways depending on the style and accessories you choose.

On the catwalks, Victoria Beckham, McQ by Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney all championed the sassy shortie, making it a real wardrobe essential. International style icon Victoria showcased a selection of structured skater skirts in bright orange, white and black at New York Fashion Week, cinched at the waist with shiny belts. Other skater designs featured black ruffles or a split that revealed contrasting material underneath.

In Paris, Stella McCartney sent models down the runway in electric blue versions with strategic folds creating kilt-like shapes. Other designs featured black panels on lighter blue hues imprinted with fern-like plant formations.

McQ by Alexander McQueen showed structured skater skirts made from sumptuous burgundy velvet, embroidered with an intricate red leaf pattern and teamed with waist-cinching big buckled belts.

On the high street, skater skirts are available in a plethora of colours and materials, from edgy black leather to shimmery gold taffeta. Team yours with a denim shirt for a casual but cool look, or a bright cardigan to channel your inner ‘chic geek’. The opportunities are endless! – COVER MEDIA
