If there’s one way to stand out from the fashion crowd this summer, it’s with neon.

Ditch the pretty pastels in favour of something brighter, bolder and braver and opt for fluorescent pieces to add to your wardrobe favourites.

The Spring/Summer 13 catwalks were adorned with neon apparel, with hot pinks, orange, bright green and cobalt blue all featuring in the designer shows.

Hussein Chalayan showed off a largely white line in Paris, before injecting shades of bright green and blue hues into proceedings.

Trend: Nail it with neon

Models strutted down the catwalk in flowing midi-length, white skirts teamed with vivid green peplum tops and wide brimmed hats with neon blue and green plastic visors.

Proenza Schouler brightened up the New York catwalk, while Simone Rocha, Erdem, Matthew Williamson and Antonio Berardi all featured the stand-out trend in their London shows.

Berardi worked the neon trend into his collection subtly, mixing super-feminine cuts and bold colours together to create highly-wearable looks.

One model took to the runway in an embellished metallic and white top teamed with an eye-catching pink skirt – perfect for an evening look.

Williamson mixed orange and pink hues for a head-turning reaction, with models strutting down the runway wearing tie-dye inspired neon shirts and dresses.

There are two ways to wear this look for the new season.

For the more daring fashionistas, opt for colour-block pieces, while the more conscious ladies should stick to one key piece and team it with something sheer or floaty for a more subtle-yet-glam look.

Jeans and a neon tank top is the perfect daytime look for another style icon wanting to gradually introduce the bold trend into her seasonal wardrobe. Just don’t forget your shades.
