theoutnet.com swimwear and summer travel trends EVE THOMASNext to jeans – and maybe your wedding dress – shopping for swimwear has got to be just about the most painful experience a woman can have when it comes to fashion.

So to help you out we spoke to Eve Thomas, the senior fashion editor of THE OUTNET (pictured left; image: theoutnet.com), the sister website of online retailer Net-A-Porter.com that sells over 200 designer fashion labels from previous seasons at up to 75 per cent discount; think of it as Net-A-Porter’s warehouse.

THE OUTNET also gets exclusive deals from various international fashion brands that you can’t get anywhere else.

If you’re wondering how to style all these fabulous buys, the Dress Me section has how-to videos, fashion shoots, animations and features that are linked directly to the items in the images. This is where Eve’s skills come in; she styles the looks so that you can be totally on trend without breaking the bank.

Since summer has definitely arrived and many of us are thinking about our next holiday – to a nice relaxing resort perhaps? – we asked Eve to give us some tips on how to not only choose the right swimsuit, but also how to be on trend and comfortable while relaxing by the water.

What are the ‘hot’ trends in swimwear this season?
Swimwear is having a retro moment. High waisted bikini bottoms with bandeau bras, sweetheart swimsuits and paisley prints should be on everyone’s wishlist this season.

What are some basic tips for choosing swimwear styles to fit your body shape?
Hourglass figures should look to balconette bikini tops to create a corset-like silhouette. Side-tying briefs lengthen the leg and flatter most shapes. To add curves, create volume by sporting patterns and frills. Bandeau styles suit more boyish frames.

What are the three ‘must have’ swimwear/clothing items for a beach holiday?
A straw trilby will keep you looking and feeling cool in the sun. Gladiator sandals go with everything and are perfect for days spent sightseeing. I always pack a cotton sundress – usually in white – to ensure I keep cool and to offset sun-kissed skin.
