She was once hailed as one of the Seven Princesses of Mediacorp. And Jesseca Liu, who turns 40 this February, has proven that she’s got the staying power. Her popularity remains undiminished, despite a six-year hiatus from the screen.
She first placed in a Malaysian beauty contest in 2001, then starred in a few Chinese dramas, some produced by Singapore-based companies. But it was in 2004 we got to know her, as He Yixuan in the sports-themed drama, The Champion.
She went on to play Ruan Mianmian in the 100-episode drama series, Portrait of Home, in 2005. It bagged her the Best Newcomer award in Star Awards that year. In 2006, she nabbed her first lead role, as Ding Yirou in Rhapsody in Blue. She’s since starred in shows such as Kinship I (2007) and Beach.Ball.Babes (2008).
But her credentials include being an elegant, sophisticated dresser. To celebrate her big 4-0, we pulled out some of her best #OOTD moments that you can replicate in celebration of her.
1. In the Trench(es)
We love how this masculine number brings out her feminine features all the more. She wore this trench coat as a dress, and judging by the number of likes, it’s a winning look.
Remember to get a trench that cinches your waist to accentuate your figure.
2. Beautiful in white
This floor length, multi-tiered ruffled gown is classic Jesseca.
The gorgeous beauty looked like an ethereal fairy when she wore it to the press conference for her latest drama series, Babies On Board (2018). For an everyday look, look for a similar dress, but one that hits you at the knee. It’ll be just as stunning.
3. Slip into this
If slip dresses are too slinky and lace tops are too see-through, take this tip from Jesseca: Combine both.
Her puffed-shoulder lace piece under a forest-green slip was sheer genius. Stylish and contemporary, we say try it yourself, but with an orange or yellow piece for a summery vibe. Don’t forget the hoop earrings.
4. The mighty midi
Jess’ off-shoulder midi dress would have been boring in black. But the bold shade of teal made her look youthful and fabulous.
Let the dress do the talking by going with very simple accessories like a pair of diamond studs.
5. Bedazzled but ‘naked’
Every diva has to rock one of these one time in their lives. And the Star Awards are the perfect place to shine in a ‘naked’ dress.
Jess wowed the crowds at the 2017 awards show in this show-stopping Zuhair Murad gown. Wear this to your company’s next D&D, and shine.
6. Polka hot
We love this polka dotted look because it’s unexpected, with the dots showing up on a shirt-dress, paired so well with leather brogues.
Jess carries this look well, looking cheeky and fun without trying too hard. Your other option is to do polka dots with espadrilles. Just as fab.
7. Black train
This Stella McCartney piece from 2015 is still a ‘wow’. Love the details at the shoulder. Let this statement piece be your go-to for dinners at fine-dining restaurants.
Wear it with some delicate jewellery to exude class.
8. Romantic ruffles
This ruffled pink gown was mind-blowing. Elegant and soft, Jess recently wore this for a magazine shoot. Love.
You’d look just as gorgeous in one that hits your knees; in fact, the comfortable length will make you look 10 times younger. Carry an oversized clutch to complete the look.
9. White powersuit
Jesseca’s double breasted blazer and matching tailored trousers is office-appropriate, and gives off serious power woman vibes.
Look understated yet dapper when you go for this, and wear it with some heels to elevate the look.
10. Show off your best assets
Collarbones are sexy, and Jess knows it. She showed up in a cerulean blue one-shoulder dress at Samsung launch, which made her look both sensual and elegant.
Nail this look tastefully by wearing some sculptural earrings with it.
