Recently, denim has risen to become one of K-Fashion’s most popular items being seen on the sylph-like bodies of Korean celebrities like Kang Min Kyung of Davichi, Hyomin of T-ara, actress Gianna Jun and model Kang
Seung Hyun.
For Spring 2014, denim trends have made a somewhat drastic transformation with various special designs coming to the fore. As retro style grows in popularity, destroyed jeans and the denim-on-denim look have reappeared to capture the eyes of women.
1. DENIM HAS TO BE TORN
Destroyed, or distressed, jeans used to be one of the most popular items in the 1980s and 1990s. The main characteristic of destroyed jeans is that they are purposely torn and frayed. By wearing these jeans, you can create a vintage and boyish image with a funky and tough texture. Distressed jeans in a boxy shape help you present a mannish style and the ripped details of skinny jeans creates a sexy mood. Kang Min Kyung of Davichi and Hyomin of T-ara have been spotted wearing a casual yet funky look with t-shirts and distressed jeans that have huge detail.
2. WEAR DENIM AS IF IT’S A CLASSIC LOOK
If you thought that denim could only be used for a casual look, then you should take a look at some of the new trends this season. You can still create a feminine and elegant style with jeans. By wearing a pair of skinny jeans that beautifully outline your body, you can present a feminine style with rich silhouette blouse or simple jacket. Actress Gianna Jun recently matched a pair of skinny jeans and a white jacket for a stylish, classic look. Even though it is denim, you can emphasise the classic feeling by coordinating your jeans with more formal pieces.
3. DENIM-ON-DENIM HAS RETURNED
Fashion trends always come and go, and a style that was trendy a long time ago reappears as something new. Originally, denim-on-denim fashion flourished at the beginning of the 90’s. But wearing matching denim on top and bottom can sometimes make you to look a bit “country” so be careful how you style it. Korean model Kang Seung Hyun wore a denim-on-denim look with a denim jacket and white jeans. Even though both items are made of the same fabric, she made it stylish by differentiating the color.
