Stella McCartney wins designer of the year at British Fashion Awards DECORThe annual fete of British fashion design was held at the Savoy Hotel, London, on November 27, 2012, and saw Stella McCartney take two awards home; designer of the year and brand of the year for her eponymous label.

Stella described 2012 as “the best year to be British … and one of the most incredible years of my life”, according to The Guardian Online.

The daughter of Paul McCartney beat young stars Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou to the top award.

“Big name” brands Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Mulberry missed out on receiving any awards for 2012, with more “emerging” designers like Roksanda Ilincic taking home prizes.

However Alexa Chung repeated her past wins, taking home the British Style Awards for the third year in a row in the only publicly voted award.
