Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. That’s why it’s important to keep them clean, shiny and sparkling. But many days of wear and everyday dirt and grime all leave enough of a film on your diamond jewellery to keep it from looking its best. And if you wait too long between cleanings, those materials can accumulate into a thick layer of gunk on the back of your diamond, blocking light and making the diamond appear dull and lifeless.

Ideally, diamond jewellery should be sent back annually to your jewellers for professional cleaning.  However, it doesn’t mean you can’t do it yourself at home. Here is an easy method I use to keep my diamonds shining like new:

Step 1: Put diamond jewellery into a solution of 1 part MaMa Lemon or any mild soap and 3 parts hot water. Soak for about 10 minutes.
Step 2: Take jewellery out and brush with a soft bristle toothbrush till it is slightly sudsy.
Step 3: Rinse with cold water.

Repeat all steps three times or you can let it soak overnight if it is very dirty.

Again, a gentle reminder –  it is still highly recommended that you let the pros do the cleaning at least once a year. Your “best friend” will thank you for it!
