As part of our celebrations for Singapore’s National Day on August 9, herworldPLUS is featuring the fashion designers who help make Singapore fashionistas stand out from the crowd.

In Part 2 of The Designer Files, we have the designers and teams from some of Singapore’s hot emerging fashion labels that make up the Parco Next Next fashion incubator project. Keep an eye on labels like Foreword, Saloni Rathor, Alexandria Chen, Rêvasseur, Wil.Liam and Episene; they could be the next big thing in global fashion.

Designer Evelyn Ng is wearing Foreword Spring Summer 2013 top with a skirt she borrowed from her sister, with shoes by Jeffrey Campbell. Her necklaces, neckpieces and bracelets are from Foreword Autumn Winter 2013, and her watch is by Skagen. Evelyn’s favourite thing about Singapore is the food; especially the popiah from East Coast, near the Parkway Centre.

SALONI RATHOR

Saloni, from her eponymous brand Saloni Rathor, is wearing a bespoke jumper she made herself, shoes from Pedro and a necklace from Bugis Street; her antique silver metal bag is from India, as is her bespoke ring designed by her mother and her engagement ring. Her Varanasi bracelet is from a holy temple in Kolkata and she’s been wearing it since she was four-years-old; she just keeps widening it to fit. Saloni’s favourite thing about Singapore is that is that the city is extremely safe for women; “I love the mental freedom you get here,” she says.

Designer of her eponymous label, Alexandria Chen, Alexandria is dressed in her own label’s Spring Summer 2013 collection with tights from Hong Kong and shoes from Jeffrey Campbell. Her neckpiece and harness are bespoke pieces she made herself; her bracelet is by Schulworks from Taiwan, her rings are Tao from Taiwan, and her knot ring is by Saloni Rathor. Alexandria’s other jewellery consists of a vintage ring and wedding band, and her watch is by Aigner. Her favourite thing about Singapore is the food from the Old Airport Road hawker centre.

Designer of Wil.Liam, William Chong, is wearing Singapore label Coupe Cousu Spring Summer 2013 shirt with pants by Wil.Liam and shoes by Wakai. His friend and model Izabella is wearing Wil.Liam Spring Summer 2013 with shoes from Your Feet Look Gorgeous. William says his favourite thing about Singapore is the food; especially prawn noodles. Izabella says her favourite thing about Singapore is the nature; “There are so many trees and the air is good, I like how there is a jungle and metropolis united”.

Episene designer Lee Yun Ting is wearing Episene Spring Summer 2013 top with Episene Pre-Spring 2014 pants, shoes from Taiwan and a watch from Skagen. Yun Ting says that her favourite thing about Singapore is that it “doesn’t sleep”.

Designer of Rêvasseur, Gilda Su, is wearing Rêvasseur Autumn Winter 2014 jacket with Rêvasseur Spring Summer 2013 tee, pants by Merci Beaucoup and a hat from Korea. Her shoes are Rêvasseur slippers. Rêvasseur assistant designer Zoul is wearing Rêvasseur Autumn Winter 2014 jacket and pants with an old singlet and boots by Bullfight. Gilda says her favourite thing about Singapore is the food; especially the pepper crab from Palm Beach; Zoul says his favourite thing about Singapore is also the food, because “of all the different cuisines that are available”

Rêvasseur assistant designer Jeong Weon (right) is wearing Rêvasseur Spring Summer 2013 top with a skirt from Topshop, boots from Zara Men and glasses from Korea. Jean’s favourite thing about Singapore is the fact that it’s small and that “everything is so accessible”. Jeong Weon says she likes the nightlife.
