The runway to retail concept has been highly debated over the past couple of fashion seasons, thanks to the proliferation of technology. With smartphones, everyone has access to the looks immediately and find it unsatisfying that they have to wait for six months these items are available for purchase. The fashion industry has been exploring ways to get the clothes, shoes and bags to the customer as quickly as possible.
This idea of shop-the-runway has been around in limited form for a few seasons but for this season , it is going to be more prevalent.
Ironically, Tom Ford who previously restricted even the most famous people from snapping Instagram pictures at his closed door shows, has been one of the first fashion designers to announce that his brand would be meeting the runway to retail ideal with his future collections starting with his September show for autumn winter 2016 at the New York Fashion Week.
The designer wanted his collection to coincide with the delivery of the clothes in store, closing the gap between runway and retail. And, it worked! He presented both his Men’s and Women’s Autumn Winter 2016 Collections in New York City and the entire collection is now available for purchase on his official website.
The Tom Ford site only ships to America, but you can also find the brand’s runway pieces at Net-A-Porter and some selected pieces at the Tom Ford store located at Marina Bay Sands.
