Seems like we’ll never be short of talented Singaporeans making international waves.

A little backstory for those who might not know: Back in October 2015, fashion powerhouse Gucci collaborated with various online illustrators to create #GucciGram. The goal of that initiative? To encourage artists to re-imagine artworks featuring the Gucci Blooms and Gucci Caleido motifs.

It was an innovative move by creative director Alessandro Michele – and it worked.

Fashion isn’t just about clothes, nor is it an exclusively niche or esoteric endeavour. Rather, one can argue that fashion is at its core about expression and art. With Gucci’s new spirit of cultural eclecticism, it made sense for the brand to reach out to an international group of artists (online, no less!), which was exactly what it did with this new motif.

Tian, the Chinese word for sky or heaven, is what this new batch of artworks revolves around, and Teresa Lim (@teeteeheehee) has brought in an element of feminism, or as writer Alana Massey commented, something “unapologetically feminine” to the fore.

If the women in her portraits look bored, it’s because they are. Teresa didn’t just want to focus on the beauty of women, but also to convey “an air of nonchalance and power”.

Effortless beauty and feminism: Two things we at herworldPLUS can definitely get behind!
