One year and 31 million dollars later, Wisma Atria’s facelift is finally complete. Gone is the blue-and-white glass windowed exterior that looked tiny next to the monolith structures of the shopping centres next to it.
Now, in its place, is a stunning work of art that resembles a multi-faceted jewel – one which you can shop in.
Designed based on the concept of a “jewellery box”, the new façade is open and inviting, allowing passersby to peek in and see right through to the back of stores. Setting Wisma Atria apart from the other malls on the street is the short flight of steps situated right across its front that brings to mind New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is likely that on busy weekends, these steps will be filled with shoppers taking a break.
Along with Wisma Atria’s spanking new façade, the mall has also done an update on its tenants. There are new-to-Singapore brands such as Tory Burch and Tommy Bahama, flagship boutiques from Coach and Tag Heuer, as well as Korean bakery Paris Baguette, its first outlet in Singapore.
According to Mr Ho Sing, Chief Executive Officer of Starhill Global REIT Management Limited, the parent company of Wisma Atria, this new and upgraded shopping centre is a “natural progression”.
“We are confident that this milestone will take Orchard Road to the next level. This new façade serves to reassert our status as one of the well-loved icons of Orchard Road, as well as cement our position at the frontier of Singapore’s shopping landscape,” he said.
To celebrate Wisma Atria’s brand new look, an Instagram contest will be held from September 28 to October 31 and all participants have to do is to take photos of the new Wisma Atria and submit them via Instagram.
Two winning categories have been determined, “Most Likes” and “Wisma Atria’s Favourite”. The winner of “Most Likes” will be rewarded with a Sony Cyber Shot Digital Camera while the winner of “Wisma Atria’ Favourite” will win a Sony Alpha A77 Camera.
Contest participants will have to indicate the date when the photograph was taken, and include distinct elements of Wisma Atria to qualify.
