As well as helping you look fabulous, fashionable workout wear serves a greater purpose. From streamlined zip pockets to store your keys and card when you’re running, to tummy toning and tucking lycra, the benefits of good active gear are countless. However, we know that some of the higher end brands can be pricey, so we’re here to give you the lowdown on where to shop for your workout clothes, whether you’re living on a budget or happy to invest. Take this as your definitive list on where to buy your athleisure and activewear in Singapore:

Blow the budget

Lululemon

Canadian stalwarts Lululemon have been scene stealers for quite a while on the workout wear front. After opening its first boutique at ION Orchard mall back in December 2014, the brand’s presence has only increased for fan girls! Great for sports bras, running leggings and all sorts of yoga accessories in pretty colours and feminine shapes, you’re spoilt for choice with Lulu. The one downside is that they can be pretty pricey. If you want to shop online, their site ships free to Singapore within 1-2 working days. And a tip if you’re looking for some gorgeous Lululemon gear on a budget, have a look through eBay or Facebook for cheaper items. This Singapore-based group is dedicated to reselling Lulu!

Under Armour

The brand has four standalone stores to shop at Orchard Gateway, Tampines, Collyer Quay and Bugis, as well as being stocked at Takashimaya and Robinsons The Heeren. Shop the brand for amazing tech fabrics if you’re doing outdoor activity in extreme hot or cold conditions. If you’re inclined to more adventurous sweat-inducing activities such as the Tough Mudder, Under Armour is your go-to. Misty Copeland, prima ballerina extraordinaire, is also an ambassador, so all bad a*s barre-going girls should stock up here.

Nike

A name synonymous with fitness, Nike’s technological know-how is unparalleled and their designs equally aesthetic. We’re obsessed with their tummy-tucking leggings! Our lifestyle writer Minyan models them here: “ the new Nike Zoned Sculpt Tights ($209) are my current fave – they have extra compressive support for your muscles around the core, quads and glutes, and of course, the famed Nike lifting effect. They feel super comfy, and look super flattering!”

See the store list here or stock up at their Zalora outlet.

Adidas

You’re in good company with the likes of supermodel Karlie Kloss, DJ and fitness glamazon Hannah Bronfman and more as your advocates. We love the Stella McCartney range every single season, the supportive sports bras and the new Pure Boost X trainers ($169) are seriously great running shoes. Owning a pair myself, I can tell you they feel like walking on clouds! If you’re looking for running leggings that aren’t as tummy-tucking (allowing you to breathe a little) Adidas are your answer. The Adidas Originals pieces are amazing, more fashion-forward pieces that can be used to up your athleisure game, and take you straight from yoga to brunch.

Puma

Kylie Jenner, Rihanna and Solange are all famous individuals, renowned for their quirky personalities and style that are associated with the brand. RiRi is in fact their current creative director! I’ve always been a fan of Puma for their more off-kilter designs and at a slightly lower price point than the other major players. Shop there for great indoor training, HIIT sneakers such as the Ignite range as well as streetwise sneaks such as The Trainer under the Fenty label. We can’t wait for the full range to deut come September.

Indie labels

Doyoueven

Founded in 2012, the Australian label offers a range of seamless workout gear that is ultra chic (matching sets!) and offers great support. Delivers worldwide.

High Street Names

Uniqlo

Famous for making everyday wear technologically astute, their workout wear is as amazing. In pastel hues and comfortable, moisture wicking fabrics, their cropped leggings and post-workout camisoles are great for gym basics.

H&M

Great for dancers (yes, that includes barre workouts) and other activities in need of flexible movement. H&M makes great sweatpants, joggers and tank tops. Oh, and of course, the prices are hard to beat!

Cotton On

We love this trusty Aussie brand for great sports bras, funky designs and chic accessories like cute water bottles! Shop online and see their store locations here.

The boutiques

Net-a-Sporter

The name is amazing, and their range is unparalleled! For luxury sportswear and harder to access names, Net-a-Porter is your e-boutique. From Lucas Hugh and Mara Hoffman’s tribal aesthetic to Nike and Adidas by Stella McCartney (above), you’ll find your big brands and up and comers all here in one beautifully curated space.

The Outnet

The little sister to Net-a-Porter, the online outlet sells the same brands at discounted prices. See here if you want to buy Adidas by Stella McCartney (above) at a more affordable price!
