Every so often a new fashion icon is created, usually a bag, or a shoe, the latest version is a combination of both.
Italian luxury brand Tod’s, best known for its casual but luxurious shoes, has created a new icon from its famous gommino sole. The distinctive diamond pattern of the shoe sole has been transferred to an embossed leather which has been used for a series of fabulous bags.

After years of research, the brand worked out a way to get the pattern onto high quality leather of different types and in a number of classic colours and additional, popular bright shades like deep red, black, electric blue, fuchsia and violet.

And so the Tod’s Signature Collection of bags and small leather goods was born; instead of the usual pebble motif, the gommino effect was used.
The Tod’s Signature Collection includes a shoulder bag, a portfolio clutch, a small trunk, a shopper, an envelope clutch and a pochette bag in soft patent leather, a metallic version, a shiny calfskin and even an interesting semi-opaque nappa leather.

Tod’s Signature Collection bags are amazingly practical, the embossing of the leather with the gominno pattern means it won’t wear off; the patent leather used is unusually soft which allows the pattern to reflect light in many different ways and removed the irritation of fingerprints and marks.
Tod’s Signature Collection bags and small leather goods are priced from about $475 for a coin purse to about $1,480 for a clutch and around $3,075 for the Bauletto handbag.
