Women are always on the hunt for the perfect bag; one that isn’t too expensive, yet not made too shabbily, not too big or too small, and most importantly, one that looks great.

It isn’t always that easy to find one that ticks all four boxes, which is why the arrival of French luxury bag brand Tila March’s standalone boutique in Singapore is even more exciting.

Tila March is helmed by designer and founder Tamara Taichman, ex-fashion editor of French Elle magazine, who really came up with Tila March precisely because she found it impossible to find a bag that was practical enough for the hectic schedule of Paris Fashion Week. She thus decided to custom design a bag which fulfilled all her needs, and that caught the eyes of other magazine editors and buyers at Paris Fashion Week almost instantly. And the rest, as it usually goes, is history.

The most recognised feature of a Tila March bag is its distinctive flap-buckle on the brand’s signature Zelig purses, but it is clear that Taichman is a fan of structured, rectangular-shaped styles that reminds us of vintage bags of the sixties made from sturdy leather.

Just look to their AW2011 line to see what we mean. There is the Daisy which comes in three variations; the Daisy Camera Bag, the Daisy Messenger and the Daisy Shoulder Bag. The distinctively angular shapes of the Daisy is further accentuated with a strap closure down the front, which looks just like a modern version of a schoolboy’s satchel.

Then there is the Missy. Almost squarish in shape, the Missy Messenger features a flap cover neatly tucked into a slot in the front, bringing to mind an envelope. This season, the Missy Messenger has been updated to suit those who want something extra, with luxe fabric options like pony hair or python skin.

Tila March bags are more typically made with either high quality leather or durable canvas, a huge bonus for those of us who want our favourite bags to last forever and ever. What’s more, each design is available only in limited quantities so the chances of meeting someone else with your bag is kept to a minimum.

The first standalone Tila March boutique might be small at 600 square feet, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for it in range offered. The store in Scotts Square will carry the Tila March range of shoes, as well as exclusive-to-store designs not found in the Robinsons Marina Bay Sands branch, which only sells selected pieces from the Tila March line.

With Tila March firmly establishing itself here, it is highly likely that every woman’s quest for the perfect bag will now come to an end.

Prices for the AW2011 range start from $299 for a canvas Zelig, and go up to $1999 for a python skin Missy bag.

Tila March is located at #02-08 Scotts Square.
