Beach bunnies, rejoice. There’s a new swimwear label on the block, and its striking debut collection of separates and one-pieces is the perfect marriage of style, function and affordability.

Created by Singapore-based ex-banker Yu Chia Min and Swiss gallery owner Letizia Cramer, swimwear brand Mileti was born out of their shared love of the sun, sand and sea, as well as the realisation that they often found the choice of swimwear options in their home cities lacking.

The duo – who are avid globetrotters and met here in Singapore – then decided to establish their own line of swimwear at the beginning of 2011, and they design with the philosophy that their pieces should not only suit different body types, but also be able to travel and wear well.

Yu and Cramer work with top quality Italian fabrics and their debut line is mostly made with the newly-developed and high-tech Revolutional® Mild, which is highly breathable, quick to dry, and resistant to sand and pilling.

All impressive traits in a fabric, of course, but those who intend to soak up the sun will be pleased to know that the Revolutional® Mild also a UV protection of UPF 50+ – the highest rating for sun protective materials. UPF refers to ‘Ultraviolet Protection Factor’, which measures a fabric’s effectiveness in protection against ultraviolet A and B rays.

Set to hit stores in April this year, the fledgling brand’s first collection was inspired by street art, evinced by the bold, bright hues like neon yellow and turquoise that are seen on more than several designs.

“We called it Klash because it is a mixed palette of colours and looks,” says Cramer about the line.

“Like contemporary and street art, our first collection is a melting pot of styles and personalities. We have bold colours, prints and the shiny nude disco look. Even our basic colours and styles are designed to show off the curves. Our swimwear is for the style-conscious woman who will wear it with attitude.”

Prices for separates and one-piece suits start from $50 and $140 respectively.

The new Mileti collection will be available from April 2011 at the following boutiques:
