Marc Jacobs has released their latest Resort 2019 collection, introducing two new bags that suit our needs: Small and sassy for play, large and practical for everyday. Refreshing the aesthetics for next year, the American label has offered us arm candy that delivers on both affordability and quality.

First case in point: The iconic Snapshot camera bag is getting a new sister.

Her name? Softshot.

Softshot retains all the main features that the Snapshot have – the shape, the recognisable double J emblem, dual compartment with back pocket and double zipping system and the ability to change straps

But there are five main differences between the two.

  • Size options: Snapshot is available in one size – 18.3cm x 5.9cm x 10.5cm, while the Softshot is larger with two options – 21cm x 8.5cm x 8.3cm or 27cm x 9.5cm x 18cm. However, the Softshot is lighter due to the material used.
  • Material: Snapshot is created with a tougher and sturdier split cow leather treated with a polyurethane coating, also known as Saffiano leather, whilst the Softshot is made with full grain calf leather that is softer and more supple. The new Softshot is great for people who prefer a softer, less structured silhouette.
  • Pricing: Because Softshot is larger and made with calf leather, it is more expensive and retails for $640 or $720 as compared to Snapshot’s $550.

  • Understated colours: One outstanding feature of the Snapshot is the use of colour-blocking where each bag is made of three different colours. Each Softshot on the other hand is made with one colour. Both 21 and 27 Softshot comes in black, cement, blue sea and burgundy but the 21 has added variety of bright blue, hot pink and porcelain.

  • Accompanying strap: With the purchase of the bag, Snapshot comes with a polyester webbing strap while the Softshot bears a simpler leather version. However, the straps can be changed and other designs are sold in store.

The Softshot can be worn three ways – on the shoulder, across the body and as a clutch. This versatility makes the bag even more user-friendly as it can easily help you transit from work to play.

But if the Softshot is too small for your daily necessities like a laptop or A4 paper, the new Tag Tote is perhaps the one for you.

Marc Jacobs Tag Tote

Made with the same soft, calf leather as the Softshot, the evergreen tote design gets a unique Marc Jacobs spin with the introduction of a dual strap and bag tag design.

Tote bags in the market usually come only with the top handle, making the bag only feasible to be carried as a handbag. But with Marc Jacobs’ addition of a shoulder strap, the Tag Tote has enhanced versatility and can be worn as a crossbody bag.

The Tag Tote also features a playful take on the bag tag: A hang tag inspired by the price tag. On one side, the tag shows off the Marc Jacobs name and logo, and on the flip side, a barcode motif mimics the price tag.

The Tag Tote comes in two sizes and different colour options. At $690, the Tag Tote 27 comes in seven colours: Black, cement, nightshade grey, pepper green, bright blue, bright pink and porcelain, while the Tag Tote 31 comes in black and nightshade grey and cost $820. To help you get a better gauge of their sizing, the 27 can fit an iPad while the 31 can fit a 15” laptop.

Both the Softshot and Tag Tote are available in Marc Jacobs stores at #01-03A Paragon Shopping Centre and Branded Boutiques, Level 1 Takashimaya Department Store from early December 2018.
