MCM now at Changi Airport T2 THUMBNAIL

Finally we too can carry the cult accessories label that has come to be identified with the hottest pop culture in the world, K-Pop of course, now that German leather goods brand MCM is available at Changi Airport Terminal 2.

The brand’s latest collection, the “Very MCM in Monaco” Spring Summer 2013, is packed full of bright colours and is the opening look for MCM’s first Southeast Asian standalone boutique.

Founded in 1976, MCM – which stands for Mode Creation Munich – or the Roman numerals for 1900, the beginning of the “modern era of travel”, is an accessory label that started out specialising in travel gear made in quality leather and using traditional German techniques.

Currently designed by top German creative Michael Michalsky, MCM bags are available in all sorts of leather, including exotic skins, colours and a huge range of shapes; everything from backpacks – it’s “core” bag – to super-stylish handbags and small leather goods.

Over the years the brand has also branched out into ready-to-wear clothing, although it remains best-known for the backpacks beloved by K-Pop stars.

Everyone from Rain to G-Dragon and TOP from Big Bang, all the girls from 2NE1, MBLAQ’s Lee Joon, Se7en, TVXQ’s Yunho and Changmin, B2ST’s Junhyung and 4minute’s Hyuna and Ga Yoon have been seen carrying or endorsing MCM in some way.

This has probably got something to do with the fact that the brand is now owned by a Korean company – that obviously knows the value of a well-placed item – but its popularity has also spilled over into the world of American pop and hip-hop too; Justin Bieber, Omarion and Chris Brown are just some of the stars sporting MCM.

All this interest from celebrities has undoubtedly pushed MCM into its cult status, but that doesn’t mean the items are beyond the ordinary fashionista. Now you too can snap up one of these super-durable, stylish accessories the next time you happen by the airport.

MCM is available in Singapore from Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure & Transit Hall. For more information about MCM, go to www.mcmworldwide.com. You can follow MCM on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MCMWorldwide and Twitter at twitter.com/mcmtweets.
