There’s a new soon-to-be-It-bag in town, and it is Louis Vuitton’s Noé BB bag, the Noé’s petite sibling.

If you aren’t familiar with the Noé bag, here’s a short history lesson – the Noé bag was first born in 1932 when a champagne producer approached Gaston-Louis Vuitton (Louis Vuitton’s grandson) and asked him to create a special bucket bag that could hold his champagne bottles on the go.

The Noé, which could hold four bottles upright and the fifth inverted was held closed with a leather drawstring, was thus born. It was named Noé in reference to Noah, the biblical character who planted grapevines on the mountains of Ararat after he left the Ark.

Throughout the years, the Noé has remained as one of the French luxury house’s most iconic bag styles alongside the Speedy, the Alma and the Keepall, and has seen many variations in the Monogram canvas, the Damier Azur and the Epi leather.

The Noé BB bag isn’t the Noé’s only smaller relative; there is the Petit Noé, which is slightly smaller than the Noé but larger than the Noé BB. New to the Noé BB is an extra-long strap so it can be slung crossbody-style to fit with the spirit of the more youthful Noé BB bag.

The Noé BB bag will come in Monogram canvas, the Damier Azur and Epi leather in five shades – Figue, Fuschia, Citron, Piment and Cyan – with the Noé BB Monogram and Damier Azur starting from $1,320 and going up to $1,820 for the Epi leather version.

It’s hard not to like the Noé BB, the bucket shape is even more adorable in the smaller size and the array of candy colours available makes it quite irresistible, and rightly so.

After all, it is nothing if not a truely time-tested classic bag.

The Louis Vuitton Noé BB bag will be in stores from May.
