Jonathan Anderson’s fascination with the hedonistic Balearic lifestyle that underlines the Loewe Paula’s Ibiza capsule collection derives from the memory of holidays he spent there in his youth. The creative director of Loewe singled out Paula’s, a very important boutique in Ibiza during the mid-’70s, for its influence as an international hub on the likes of spirited bohemians and their equally colourful floral garments.
Think of it as a holiday collection if you may, but Anderson takes it one step further, with a collection that is filled with a riotous mix of colours, prints, details and silhouettes, as well as eclectic accessories.
Some of the prints are recurring ones that have since become Loewe Paula’s Ibiza signatures. The lily and mermaid motifs inspired by the Mediterranean are seen on clothes such as easy-to-wear blouson and relax-fit jeans. The lily even adorns one of Loewe’s latest bags, the Balloon; while on hats and caps, it takes on a more graphic look that recalls a day out at Sentosa.
New prints include the crests on playful tiered dresses and robes, some decorated with novel beaded bibs. The new prints also appear on patches on denim jackets and shirts. Another interesting addition is the introduction of tie-dye, seen on many of the T-shirts, jeans, as well as hoodies.
Though the vibe is anything goes, the collection retains the exquisite Spanish craftsmanship and details the brand is known for. Breathable fabric is key, with a tropical climate in mind. From cotton to denim, knit to linen, this resort-ready selection is ideal for Singapore’s weather, complete with fun accessories such as hats, caps, phone pouches, bags, and even floral garlands that you can hang on bags or clothes.
With this much possibility and creativity, one can’t help but notice how positive Loewe Paula’s Ibiza is. And at times like this, that’s what we really need: positivity.
