From The Straits Times    |

Spotted on the catwalks and outside the runway shows on our favourite influencers during the S/S ’20 presentations were a series of high impact, saturated colours worn head-to-toe. Youthful, refreshing shades such as minty pistachio green, nectarine pink and soft buttery yellow were seen on the runways of Ulla Johnson, Jonathan Simkhai and Loewe.

Many of the designers chose to show their brightly coloured looks with matching accessories and shoes. Varying very slightly in shades and tones, the individual elements making up each ensemble had a cohesive colour palette, resulting in a dynamic overall look.

Broken up by different textures and interesting details such as ruffles and pleats, the strictly monochromatic looks stood out with vigour. Neutrals weren’t present to counterbalance the strong choice of colours – this trend is characterised by an overarching sense of boldness.

Get ahead of the trend and start dressing in the same colour from top to bottom. If you’re apprehensive about looking like a walking traffic light, your worries are unfounded. Saturated colours can look contemporary and not at all tacky – simply take a look at our curated ensembles below to know what we’re talking about. Taking the season’s hottest colour trends in mind, we’ve compiled 5 different looks for you below to take inspiration from.

Pistachio green

Pastel minty green is trending hard for S/S ‘20, having been spotted on the runways of Tibi, Ulla Johnson and Jonathan Simkhai. Sweet and soft with a vibrant energy that’s sure to capture attention, pistachio green is one of our favourite spring colours to don. To rock this unique shade, team an oversized mint green blazer with a matching A-line mini skirt and a satin bralette. Finish the look with seafoam green faux pearl and crystal hair clips, a pair of ankle boots and a mini croc-effect tote bag.

Lelet NY Seafoam set of three gold and silver-tone faux pearl, crystal and resin hair clips, US$219.46 (S$296.66) from Net-a-Porter; Maryam Nassir Zadeh Agnes leather ankle boots, S$729 from Mytheresa; Araks Yanelis satin-trimmed bralette, S$110 from Matchesfashion; Valentino embellished wool and silk-blend crepe shorts, US$1,890 from Net-a-Porter; Cult Gaia Estelle mini croc-effect leather tote, U$403.56 from Net-a-Porter; Albus Lumen Manus oversized linen blazer, US$424.99 from Net-a-Porter

Tangerine orange

Introduce a bright, tangy shade of orange into your wardrobe this season. This invigorating shade of orange looks contemporary and chic, so it’d be best to opt for modern silhouettes to bring out the best in this hue and not look dowdy. This 90s’-style graphic-print mini dress introduces a fresh spin to the animal print and features a sexy cowl neckline. Lean into the recent dress-with-trousers trend for an extra modern touch. This pair of knit trousers from LA-based loungewear brand Leset are fitted on the hips with flared wide legs, so it won’t look bulky underneath the slip dress. Toss on a pair of hoop earrings (these jelly-like enamel earrings from Alison Lou are absolutely adorable), a bag with an architectural shape and a pair of sandals to complete the look.

Aesther Ekme Demi Lune leather shoulder bag, S$515 from Matchesfashion; Studio Amelia 2.4 thong-strap sandals, US$476 from Farfetch; Maisie Wilen graphic-print dress, US$1,145 from Net-a-Porter; Leset French terry wide-leg pants, US$90.68 from Net-a-Porter; Alison Lou medium Jelly Lucite and enamel hoop earrings, US$127.07 from Net-a-Porter

Nectarine pink

Take a page out of the style books of Tory Burch, Gucci and Brandon Maxwell’s S/S ‘20 collections and start dressing in peachy-toned pinks. This high-neck maxi dress from Chloe has an ethereal, relaxed bohemian vibe we’re very much into. Style it with a pair of high-top sneakers for a casual vibe, and throw on a statement barrette and matching soft peach earrings such as Chopard’s Happy Hearts earrings for a boost of femininity. If you’re rocking this look to the office, haul an oversized carryall and slip a pair of these sunglasses from Cartier Eyewear into your purse.

Cartier Eyewear collections Panthère de Cartier round sunglasses, S$985 from Mytheresa; Prada logo and studs hair clip, US$460 from Farfetch; Stella McCartney high-top sneakers, US$605 from Farfetch; Chloe embroidered silk-crepon maxi dress, US$4,150 from Net-a-Porter; Chopard Happy Hearts 18-karat rose gold, diamond and stone earrings, US$3,250 from Net-a-Porter; Zanellato Duo Metropolitan tote bag, US$770 from Farfetch

A powerful burst of sunshine yellow is just what the doctor ordered for an uplifting S/S ‘20 season. Try dressing in this cropped top rendered in painterly brush strokes, a feminine floaty pleated skirt with dainty floral prints, and a neck scarf. Rejina Pyo’s Japanese-inspired knotted  Nane bag in mustard yellow, together with a pair of mismatched earrings and loafer-style heeled pumps will give the ensemble a charming sophisticated vibe.

Red Valentino floral print pleated skirt, US$1,410 from Farfetch; Allude triangle knitted-cashmere scarf, S$120 from Matchesfashion; Rosie Assoulin easy bandeau top, US$696 from Farfetch; Timeless Pearly mismatched quartz & gold-plated hoop earrings, S$300 from Matchesfashion; Rejina Pyo Nane leather tote, S$825 from Mytheresa; Bottega Veneta chain-plaque lizard-effect leather pumps, S$1,340 from Matchesfashion

Flaming red

Exuding courage and passion, a deep fiery red is another wearable shade to adopt this season. Monse’s merino wool sweater employs the brand’s avant garde, asymmetrical cuts as seen in the tie-front neckline. Pull it over a spaghetti-strapped maxi dress, such as this paprika red leopard-print number, and slip into a pair of espadrilles from the Spanish brand known for its cult-favourite wedges, Castaner. To complete the outfit? A pair of statement earrings designed with an abstract design, and a simple red bowling bag from Miu Miu.

Monse asymmetric tie-front merino wool sweater, US$1,178.64 from Net-a-Porter; Bea Bongiasca Vine 9-karat rose gold and enamel earrings, US$1,384.30 from Net-a-Porter; Alice + Olivia Candice leopard-print silk maxi dress, US$484.44 from Net-a-Porter; Castaner Carina 30 canvas and jute espadrille wedges, US$115 from Matchesfashion; Miu Miu small leather bowling bag, S$1,675 from Matchesfashion
