I’m sure we’ve all been there. There’s a beautiful designer dress you’ve been eyeing, yet there’s no special occasion to wear it; which just doesn’t make sense for your budget, right? This new dress rental service might just help, as you’ll get to wear some of these pretty frocks at a fraction of the actual cost.
To be launched online in Singapore on May 7, 2015, the new Rent A Dress service allows you to keep a borrowed dress for three days. After the three days, a laundry service will collect your dress from your address.

While it’s not the first in Singapore to launch a dress rental service, the brand selection does make it more appealing to the fashion-forward set. Featured fashion labels include Badgley Mischka, Sheike and Self Portrait — this London-based brand is currently a big hit with style bloggers — as well as designer diffusion lines Notte by Marchesa and ML by Monique Lhuillier. Yes, you might soon get to wear a dress with that dreamt-of ‘Marchesa’ tag.
Prices range from $45 to $150 for cocktail dresses and $80 to $200 for long evening gowns.

To me, it makes perfect sense if you’re hardly ever going to re-wear that designer dress. For the average Singapore woman, the fuss of dry cleaning it and fretting over its delicate materials means that it’s unlikely any of us will re-wear that special dress and live up to that cost-per-wear value.
It’s also super useful for that one wedding you’re attending, or that company dance-and-dinner and you’ve got nothing to wear.

The only catch? Just two sizes — UK6 and UK8 — will be made available when the Rent A Dress website is launched.
While that seems quite limiting for now, we do hope to see more sizes and brands featured; we’re sure more women would love to try being Cinderella for a day, in these pretty dresses too.
