Founded in 1995 by Canadian identical twins Dean and Dan Caten, Dsquared2 entered the fashion scene with menswear before launching its womenswear arm in 2003. With edgy designs that capture the brand’s signature of “Born in Canada, Living in London, Made in Italy”, Dsquared2 combines Canadian iconography with Italian tailoring and an attention to detail. It is this multi-national, global branding that has captured the attention and love of many celebrities such as Madonna, Rihanna and Britney Spears.
Unfortunately, Dsquared2 has quietly shuttered its physical store here in ION Orchard. While fashion retailing group Kwang Sia, its distributor, confirmed the move, it has declined to say more on the reasons behind pulling the brand.
While you can still purchase some pieces via its international website, if you prefer to get a proper look and feel of what you’re buying at a store (and not have to deal with pesky shipping fees and taxes as well), don’t fret. We’ve rounded up five fashion labels that have similar styles to Dsquared2 — which has a curious blend of aesthetics ranging from sporty street wear to sleek and chic silhouettes, military utilitarian to doses of Americana — and which you can make your purchases from right here.
Here’s a caveat though: It is impossible to find a label that exactly replicate the vibes of Dsquared2 — each brand is unique in its own way — but we reckon that the labels you’re about to read share certain similarities to make them a good enough alternative. Think of them as siblings rather than twins, if you will.
1. For those who love its sleek, chic aesthetics: Celine

For those who love the tailored pantsuits and slinky black bodycon dresses that Dsquared2 offers, head to Celine. Hedi Slimane, who previously worked at Saint Laurent, has brought over his signature dark romantic vibes cut in structured, form-fitting silhouettes to Celine, which he currently helms.
Celine boutiques are located in Ngee Ann City and Marina Bay Sands.
2. For those who love its unique spin on street wear: Off-White

Dsquared2 has its own take on street style, ranging from Balenciaga-esque chunky dad sneakers, colourful coats and track pants to sporty offerings such as sweatshirts and tank tops. Our closest bet would be Off-White created by American fashion designer Virgil Abloh. Founded in 2013, Abloh has quickly redefined the mores of street wear with his avant-garde yet youthful and eclectic spin on the genre, and has since gained a loyal following.
Off-White boutique is located in 268 Orchard Rd.
3. For those who love its Americana influences: Coach

Signature elements in Americana fashion such as leather and cowboys jackets are frequently referenced at Dsquared2 and fans of this Western style will find solace in Coach. The American label has built its brand with leatherwork while incorporating many silhouettes also associated with the American style, such as prairie dresses and cowboy boots.
Coach boutiques are located in places such as Paragon, Raffles City and VivoCity.
4. For those who love its blend of masculine and feminine: Hugo

For those who prefer an androgynous style, Dsquared2’s gender melding style is a space to find outfits that straddle both sexes with boxy cuts that are slim- and form-fitting or are infused with tones of military sensibilities. Here, we’re recommending Hugo, an offshoot of the Hugo Boss brand. Similar to Dsquared2, the German label offers a mix of androgynous styles with military and street wear influences.
Hugo boutiques are located in ION Orchard, Marina Bay Sands and Jewel Changi Airport.
5. For those who love its heady use of colour: Versace

Seemingly drawing inspiration from themes of punk rock and graffiti, Dsqaured2’s colourful, edgy designs are not for the faint-hearted. Similarly, Italian label Versace has made its name with fantastical colours and prints that vary in silhouettes from bodycon dresses to jumpsuits. Just think of Versace as the vibrant, cheerful sister and Dsquared2 as the tough, street-hardened girl.
Versace boutiques are located in Paragon and Marina Bay Sands.
