We all have our staple shoes, be it the pump heel or the ballerina flat. So sticking to just one pair for trips abroad can be nightmarish for fashionistas. Even the style pros can’t do it; I know of more than a few fashion insiders like Net-A-Porter’s Sarah Rutson who would happily admit to travelling with a suitcase full of shoes.
To help you shortlist the must-take shoes for your next holiday, we took style cues from New York fashion brand Michael Kors, who has come up with a “Jet Set Six” shoe collection that covers all of these essential styles for travel.

On top of these six, we’ve also added other shoe styles that we think fashionable ‘OL’s (office ladies) will definitely pack for their holidays.
While you don’t have to lug all of these shoes with you on every trip, this list can help make your packing decisions much easier. Are your must-have shoe styles on this list too?
1. THE SNEAKER
We still can’t get enough of sneakers, which are also the perfect travel shoes. It’s a good reminder to wear these to the airport and leave your boots in the luggage; since any shoe that covers your ankle will likely have to be taken off and put on again for you to get through the pre-flight security clearance.

2. THE MINIMALIST MID HEEL
For the girl who must have her pair of heels while travelling, this pair of shoes will go with just about any outfit. Whether it’s the pump heel or a strappy sandal heel, you’ve at least a pair of these packed with you on your trips.
Michael Kors embossed snake leather heels, $249
3. THE SANDAL WEDGE
Nothing says “fabulous beach vacay” better than a stylish pair of wedges, which give you that added height without the ache from those skyscraper heels.
Michael Kors Vachetta leather sandal wedge, $339
4. THE SANDAL FLAT
Admit it; you’re likely to have at least one pair of sandal flats in your suitcase. Be it for a quick jaunts to the hotel pool or a full-blown beach holiday, this travel must-have is a glam take on your favourite flat shoes.
MK faux leather sandals, $109
5. THE ANKLE BOOT
This staple pair of boots adds an outdoorsy edge to any outfit instantly and are comfortable to wear about all day too.
Michael Kors suede ankle boot, $409
6. THE BALLET FLAT
Seriously, we doubt that any ‘OL’ we know will go without at least one pair of these in her suitcase. Whether in jelly shoe form or in leather, these are good ‘airport shoes’ (easy to slip on and off while on the flight too); you can bet that the majority of us will bring these with us while abroad. Slip-on loafers can add an edge to your look, if you find these ballerina-style flats a touch too dainty for your look.

7. THE SEXY PARTY HEEL
Okay it’s not a must-have shoe for everyone. But for the traveller who has got to party, this shoe will be your go-to for those nights out abroad.
Michael Kors Vachetta leather sandal heels, $339
H&Co mesh and faux suede heel, $102 from She Shops The Online Store
