1. What jean style would you recommend for Asian body types?
Skinny, cropped jeans work well for petite frames. If jeans are too long you could get them professionally hemmed or consider cutting the hem off yourself for a distressed and on-trend look. Showing off a couple of inches above the ankle feels fresh and also elongates the leg. Flares chime well with fashion’s current love affair with all things ‘70s. Look for a pair that are fitted at the thigh and wear with a pair of platform sandals and a loose, cotton peasant blouse.
2. Can Asian girls wear baggy jeans like the boyfriend style? How would you suggest they wear them?
This season is all about the girlfriend jean – a slightly less baggy but equally casual and relaxed style, which works well for smaller frames. It is slightly more streamlined which provides a more flattering silhouette. Roll up the cuff and pair with a heel – a pointed pump works well – for the most leg-lengthening look. Contrast the loose, casual feel of the jeans with a fitted top to streamline the silhouette further.

3. What are some brands that you think are good for Asian body types?
The key is to look for jeans that have a good stretch to them such as Frame, J Brand, Victoria Beckham and Iris & Ink, as these will be the most flattering.
4. It’s always hot in Singapore; how can we wear denim that’s on trend but not too hot to wear?
Distressed denim in pale washes works well for warmer climates as does white denim, which feels modern after a long hiatus at the back of our wardrobes. Avoid skinny jeans when the weather really heats up – a pair of shorts or a girlfriend jean will be cooler. Don’t forget a denim jacket – this season’s update to the army jacket – to battle the air conditioning.
