French fashion icon Ines de la Fressange believes in quality, not quantity, when it comes to style

Parisian chic rarely goes out of fashion. The secret to French style is the effortless pairing of classic pieces. Stylish French girls have a way of repackaging their wardrobe staples to look fresh all the time.

French fashion icon Ines de la Fressange lives by the same style philosophy. She says, “Having too many items is not necessarily a good thing, and it is important to have ‘good clothes’.” De La Fressange built her first collection with Uniqlo in the same way and we saw the easy-to-wear pieces from this Spring Summer 2014 making their way into our closets.

De la Fressange manages to look chic even in the simplest ensembles like here in a trench coat, $199.90; extra fine merino boatneck sweater, $59.90; corduroy slim fit pants, $59.90 from her collaboration with Uniqlo

The second time round, the French model wanted to retain the same easy elegance for her continuing collaboration with the Japanese high street brand. For Autumn Winter 2014, the collection delivers cosy cashmere knits and smart tweed, including a tailored tuxedo suit I’ve got my eye on.

De la Fressange mentions that she wanted to “express with the new collection that even without a detailed knowledge of fashion, women can find something beautiful to wear. They can have a full wardrobe”. So I took her word for it and played stylist with 10 pieces from the new Ines de la Fressange collection for the ultimate Monday-to-Friday wardrobe.

1. Tailored jacket, $169.90; 2. Straight pants, $59.50; 3. Denim printed dress, $59.90; 4. Extra fine Merino striped sweater, 59.90; 5. Cotton broadcloth striped shirt, $49.90; 6. Extra fine Merino boat neck three quarter sleeve dress, $59.90; 7. Cotton shirt, $49.90; 8. Tweed peg top pants, $59.90; 9. Cashmere V neck cardigan, $149.90; 10. Selvedge denim flare skirt, $59.90; all from the Ines de la Fressange x Uniqlo Autumn Winter 2014 collection

Monday = 1 + 2 + 7
For that all important client meeting, a well cut suit with a crisp white button down is never wrong.

Tuesday = 3 + 9
A shirt dress is always office appropriate. The pairing of a plain V-neck cardigan with this wallpaper print dress will catch the eye of a certain colleague from the finance department.

Wednesday = 5 + 8
Tweed pants, especially in this flattering peg leg cut, should be your wardrobe staple. Dress them up with a smart striped shirt for a team lunch.

Thursday = 1 + 6
When there’s a last minute meeting with your boss, pull on the tailored blazer from Monday over this blue sheath dress.

Friday = 4 + 10
Everyone’s in jeans on Casual Friday but a denim skirt will set you out from the crowd. Plus, the striped long-sleeved tee is tres chic!
