The National Day Parade is always a hotly anticipated event in our annual calendar. One thing that always stumps us is why it seems impossible to be patriotic and fashionable on National Day.
So, we’ve compiled a list of red and white items for you to check out and be inspired by. If you’re actually going to The Float @ Marina Bay, eyes won’t just be on the live performances and fireworks — at least some will be on you. And when you’re negotiating the crowds just getting to the event — or are just out and about on August 9, you’ll be able to stand proud in your red and white digs.
Our gift to you is that our picks have the glam factor, but will still have you staying cool and comfortable for National Day 2019.
As much as we love a plain red tee, it can be blah when you see almost everyone wearing it at the National Day parade. To stand out, choose this gingham dress instead. We have three reasons to justify the purchase. 1. It’s not too ostentatious, 2. You can rewear them on the weekends and 3. It shows of hints of your decolletage.

If you insist on wearing a t-shirt to the parade, sure. However, go for one that’s printed to add a pop of colour. This Zara t-shirt has the perfect red and white combination, which means you’ve pretty much got the bases covered.

Get a roomy purse that can store all your essentials to combat the heat during the parade, such as spray on sunscreen, umbrella, cap, electronic fan and portable charger, to name a few.

Don’t reach for the tank tops immediately because of the #heat. Instead, opt for this white denim shirt that has a contrast seam stitching for that pop of sass. Since it’s 100 per cent cotton, you’ll be able to stay cool and comfortable during the parade.

Avoid skinny jeans and anything tight if you’re even thinking of going to the parade. Besides this tailored piece that we’ve chosen (which does look chic or elegant), you could rock a billowy or A-line shape, which will help keep you cool.

Pearls are all the rage this season. Plus, they’re white. It’s a perfect chance for you to hop onto the bandwagon and rock them out on National Day.

If you’re out all day, or sitting for long periods at the parade, you’ll want to be in a pair of flats so your feet aren’t screaming by the end. Be they sneakers or sandals, we’ve got your tootsies covered with these red-hot babies.

You want to shield yourself from the blazing sun, and protect your eyes from the bright light. We approve. But stop — don’t reach for that baseball cap, fedora, or even the canvas boating hat you bought on some Thailand beach holiday. Instead, get yourself a hat that’s made out of straw, like this gorgeous piece from Sensi Studio.

Casting your eyes to the sky for the popular airshow and parachuting events at the NDP means that a pair of sunnies is essential if you don’t want to be squinting a whole lot. This pair of cat-eye sunnies is perfect as it comes with 100 per cent UV protection.

If you’d prefer to have your hands free during the parade (because you’ll be busy posting Insta-stories on your ‘grams), a belt bag is definitely the perfect option for you. Either wear it across your waist or your body.

Apart from a belt bag, another way you can keep your hands free at the parade is by rocking a crossbody bag. What we love about this Furla number is its unique ombre upper. Style it with a simple white shirt dress for it to pop.
